Publisher's Summary

"Toad", the famous character in Kenneth Graham’s The Wind in the Willows, is in a very depressed state, and his good friends Rat, Mole, and Badger are "worried that he might do something silly"…. "First they nursed him. Then they encouraged him. Then they told him to pull himself together…. Finally, Badger could stand it no longer.

"Now look here Toad, this can go on no longer," he said sternly. "There is only one thing left. You must have counselling!"

Robert de Board’s engaging account of Toad's experience of counselling will capture the imagination of the growing number of people who are interested in counselling and the counselling process. In this sequel to the story of life on the riverbank, Toad and his friends come to life all over again. Heron, the counsellor, uses the language and ideas of transactional analysis as his counselling method. Through the sessions, or chapters of the book, Toad learns how to analyse his own feelings and develop his emotional intelligence. By the end of the book, as debonair as ever, he is setting out on a completely new adventure.

Appropriate for anyone approaching counselling, whether as a student, client or counsellor, Counselling for Toads will appeal to both children and adults of all ages.

"It's a good way of understanding counselling"

It's a good way of understanding counselling but it didn't keep me focused like other books, I kept drifting off then found myself coming back wishing I was paying attention. I will attempt to listen again though

    "Essential Listening for Counselling Students"

I found this audio book a welcome change of format from all my other 'text books'. It is entertaining and informative and I would argue essential for anyone starting their exploration of Transactional Analysis.

"Brilliant, definitely recommend to all age 9-100."

Listened to this book with my 10year old daughter. We loved it! It was not only enjoyable but also insightful. Prompting much learning and questions for both of us, and found she liked to analyse other adults's behaviours with regards to which ego state they were acting in (no doubt I will regret this as she hits teenage years). Would also definitely recommend to anyone that enjoyed the original story, it is like catching up with old friends!

    "Excellent!"

Excellent story line, going through Toad's life and taking us through his journey from depression to happiness. Very easy to follow and to use the lessons taught to Toad in your own life. 5 stars!!

    "Charming introduction to counselling"

What a sweet gentle tale. Toad is unhappy, and his friends Mole and Rat recommend he goes to see a counsellor Heron who they have seen advertised in the newspaper.

What follows is a lovely jaunt through the journey that is counselling.

Although this is a great intro book for anyone considering going themselves, it is also very profound and lightly touches on many models such as the parent/adult/child ego states.

Unfortunately the chap narrating this has such a lovely voice that when I listened to it in bed, I promptly fell asleep and had to rewind to a part I remembered the next day!

"Absolutely loved this introduction to counselling in story form"

Loved everything about this book- the narration was a pleasing to the ear and the lovely story - based on wind in the willows - so cleverly gives an insightful and quite thorough overview of counselling. Really enlightening for trainee counsellors, those going into therapy, those interested in understanding more about mental health and pretty much anyone including teenagers.
