Publisher's Summary

The first book in the bestselling Conqueror series featuring Genghis Khan and his descendants.

'I am the land and the bones of the hills. I am the winter.'

Temujin, the second son of the khan of the Wolves tribe, was only eleven when his father died in an ambush. His family were thrown out of the tribe and left alone, without food or shelter, to starve to death on the harsh Mongolian plains.

It was a rough introduction to his life, to a sudden adult world, but Temujin survived, learning to combat natural and human threats. A man, a small family, without a tribe was always at risk but he gathered other outsiders to him, creating a new tribal identity. It was during some of his worst times that the image of uniting the warring tribes and bringing the silver people together came to him. He will become the khan of the sea of grass, Genghis.

Amazing story!

Would you listen to Wolf of the Plains again? Why?

Yes! I would listen to it quite a few times. The narrator does an amazing job, really draws you into the story.

What other book might you compare Wolf of the Plains to, and why?

I'd compare it to Ben Kane's 'Hannibal' - it's historical fiction, just as gripping, weaves characters and their lives into the historical events. A gripping story.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Wow, that's a hard one! I loved every minute of it. Probably my favourite was when Temujin finally got revenge for his father's death (not naming specifics as i don't want to spoil it for anyone)

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Genghis. Boy, outcast, leader. A gripping tale of survival and battle.

Any additional comments?

Definitely one of the best books to listen to!!

History, passion

Incredible series that opens one’s eyes to the mongol origins and follows for the empires crazy rise into history. Engrossing characters, passionate storytelling and un-put-downable. Recommend this to everyone.

Great story, interesting.. narration

while the story is amazing and this is the third time I'm going through it, I can't help but constantly hear the narrator's need to pronounce as many R's in words as L's. instead of warriors on the plains I hear walliers and hollible (horrible) things that happen. not only is it in words with double R's but I hear the narrator constantly trying to pronounce words with only one R as a word with an L. I'm not sure if every Englishman speaks that way.. but the rest of his tone and mannerisms throughout the rest of the story was very good.

Great book. Questionable approach to accents.

This is a great story but the performance is somewhat archaic. Stephen Thorne narrates all of the character voices (which were nicely segregated) in a relative British accent except the Chinese voices, in which sounded like a white man playing a Chinese character in a 1970s movie. This grasshopper has flashbacks.

Iggulden strikes again

He’s a great style with filling in historical gaps with engaging back story. It’s gory and full of action

Only comment is the narrator’s odd pronunciation of “grimace”. It’s weird
