I've listend to a few Sandra Brown books and this one was the best. I even listened to it again straight after I enjoyed it that much. The twists and turns were brilliant. Thank you for a great read/listen...makes my nights at work go much quicker...thanks
This is an awesome story with great characters and a thrilling plot. The story was long, but there were several twists and turns in the story to fill the time. And the narrator was fantastic!
Not sure what the previous reviewer disliked this story so much. I found it thoroughly entertaining and well worth the credit!
There is WAY TOO MUCH filler. So much going on that is really not important at all. I get why some of the characters were introduced - but too much time was spent on completely insignificant stories. Additionally, the trip to South America was way too farfetched and lent little to the story.
Yes. I have enjoyed some of her works in the past.
I dont remember. However, I though she did an excellent job on the different characters.
I am writing this review mainly because I depend on reviews in making my decisions. This book is ok. I agree with previous reviewers that said the main characters were unlikeable. Honestly, I couldn't have cared less if they ended up together or not. I really dont know why they did based on the events of the story. On top of that, the woman was an idiot. She supposedly made these career decisions against the will of her parents and made decisions about going to South American - decisions that would make one think she strong willed; however, she sits by and lets the men in her life make decisons that ruin her life. Those are conflicting personality traits that make her unlikeable. And the main guy is just a major jerk.
"Not up to expectations"
I decided to pick up Where There's Smoke after devouring both Mirror Image and White Hot. I'm glad it was on sale. The story wasn't bad, but it didn't live up to my high expectations after reading the first 2 books. Although the book maintained a good pace throughout with many twists and turns, I had a hard time enjoying it, especially after its conclusion.
One of the big problems with the audiobook was that the main characters weren’t likable. Key was more relatable than Lara, but halfway through the book he was still acting like a playboy. And while Lara wasn't a bad person, I found her very self-righteous, which turned me off her character. She was always preaching or harping at someone, which was funny since an affair had landed her in her current situation.
However, my biggest dislikes were the sex scenes and the final mystery. Usually I have no issues with sex in books, but in this case I found the vocabulary used vulgar. It wasn't sexy at all! And then the twist at the very end also put me off. Had it been revealed closer to the beginning I would have found Lara more relatable.
Although Where There's Smoke was an entertaining audiobook that contained a maze of mysteries, there are better books out there, including ones by Sandra Brown. I guess I'll just have to resume my search for the perfect book, because I didn’t find it here.
Wow! I really enjoyed this book. Especially the narration. She did an amazing job on every character. If I could give her more stars I would.
Just when I thought I had the story figured out it twisted in a different way.
This is a great author and I hope that they make a miniseries I did this movie
But I will book for her name on other books for narrators
Not one in particular there were many not one that I would remember
"LOVED most of the story and narration!"
I have to say that this Narrator was good. Except when she over acted. She narrated this book like she was on stage rather than narrating a book. She laughed way too hard at times and just over acted. Had to pull out my earbuds a few times when she over yelled out her frustration here and there. Ouch!! Other than that she was good.
The story kept my interest 90% of the time. I loved listening to the saga of a Texas oil family and all the woe's inside the relationships. Loved hearing how Key was such a tough SOB! I like Dr. Laura and how she handled Key and her horrible past reputation.
LOVED Boohey and Jen Ellen's love story. SO sweet.
Hated Jody the mother and of course it was meant to hate her.
The only thing I grew tired of was the saga when they flew down to South America and all that went on. Very hard to grasp and so unrealistic.
Lots of twists and turns and of course the final twist made me say.... WHAT??? Oh Please. It just was way out there. But OH Well,, it ended the story and all was put together.
I give this 4 stars but it was a good book. Just not 5 stars. Worth the time to listen to it though.
I love Sandra Brown and have listened to many of her books. This is up there, but just beware of a few disappointments.
"handsome goes both ways"
A great book, full of surprises. You will love the doc and all she endures as a lady as well as the new doc in town.
"Another good one"
Love Sandra Brown....never know where the twist and turns will take you! loved it all
The twists & turns keep you on the edge of your seat. Excitement, blood chilling, romance all twisted together. Three thumbs up!!!
