Does being nobody's fool mean that you're nobody's love?
Colleen O'Rourke is in love with love…just not when it comes to herself. Most nights, she can be found behind the bar at the Manningsport, New York, tavern she owns with her twin brother, doling out romantic advice to the lovelorn, mixing martinis, and staying more or less happily single. Ten years ago Lucas Campbell, her first love, broke her heart - an experience Colleen doesn't want to have again, thank you very much. Since then, she's been happy with a fling here and there, some elite-level flirting, and playing matchmaker to her friends.
But a family emergency has brought Lucas back to town, handsome as ever and still the only man who's ever been able to crack her defenses. Seems like maybe they've got some unfinished business waiting for them, but to find out, Colleen has to let her guard down or risk losing a second chance with the only man she's ever loved.

"Sweet romance - not boring, but not great either"
STORY (romance) - Waiting on You is set in the wine country of New York, present day. Colleen's first love, Lucas, broke her heart ten years ago but is now returning home unexpectedly. Their story is well-written and sweet, but Colleen is full of angst due to their first failed relationship and Lucas must persevere. The background to the romance is small town life - Colleen playing matchmaker for her friends, Colleen's mother pining over her husband who left her for a younger woman, someone dying, etc. This background is sometimes sad, sometimes sweet and often humorous, but it's kind of slow when compared to the mystery/romance combos I usually buy.
PERFORMANCE - I love Amy Rubinate's sultry voice, and she did a great job as usual. She is one of the few female readers who performs a nice-sounding male voice.
OVERALL - This is my second and probably last listen in the Blue Heron series. I liked The Best Man a lot better. The stories stand alone, but you will hear updates of characters' relationships from other stories. The book is pretty clean - only a little cursing, and the sexual situations are short and very vague. Recommended for girls only, late teens or older.
"Very funny and entertaining"
The humor of the story. There were a number of parts that were so funny because I could picture it happening. Very good narration.
The other books in this series as well as Kristan Higgins other books. She writes with a great deal of humor.
Laugh out loud funny.
I've bought all of the Kristan Higgins books available on Audible. I haven't been disappointed with any of them.
"Waiting on You"
This is my favorite book in the Blue Heron series by Kristan Higgins. A second chances romance. Narration by Amy Rubinate is great. HEA and no cliffhanger. .
"“Just once, I’d love to be heartbroken ...""
Colleen is great. Beautiful, strong, independent, flirt, and still in love with the only boy/man she has ever been in love with. Lucas is successful, married into a wealthy family after having nothing his whole life. Now, he is back in Manningsport to look after his adult cousin because his uncle is dying. After Lucas' father was sent to prison, his uncle Joe took him in but Lucas never received the same treatment as his cousin Bryce (because of his B*^$% aunt - not his uncle). After the breakup with Colleen, Lucas moved on - or so he tried to tell himself. Now he is divorced and back in town. Colleen knows he will break her heart and she is helpless to stop it.
"H considerate of everyone except h - puzzling"
Mostly a very good novel. I felt sad and frustrated for the female protagonist. While there's plenty of information about H's past to understand his character and empathize, it wasn't clear to me why he never seemed to put h first. On the contrary, he seemed to always be more considerate of other important people in his life. I liked the other characters, their stories and there is much to recommend the book. My rating would have neem higher but there was just too much imbalance in the relationship. Since H made bigger mistakes leading to the end of their relationship, it was too frustrating that he didn't fight for h. H clearly wasn't able to move on while he was able to make the best of the situation. By the end, the parts about the past show how she deeply missed him while she was more of a distant thought for him. It was clear her feelings were significantly stronger .... spoilers.... and he was able to develop a loving relationship with his wife and her family. He returned to her only after his sister took another position and was no longer planning to work with him.
Not the best. Too much talk of her 'special places'. Not enough depth of characters. Just lots of dumb, childish conversations in a bar.
This story was wonderful. I laughed out loud at times, I laughed at the other mixing British and American terms even though the story is set is small town New York, I giggled at the Harry Potter references and the last two hours of the book made me cry sad and happy tears.
Recommend to anyone looking for a feel good story
"#3 Blue Herron: Waiting on You"
It was enjoyable to listen to but Higgins' books are equally enjoyable to read in print.
When Colleen cooks dinner for Lucas.
The scene before the epilogue.
Typical Higgins humor and romance mix. Good narration by Amy Ruminate.
"I have mixed feelings about this one!"
Story begins with a high school romance and first time love for both Lucas and Colleen. After high school, Lucas leaves for college and they keep a long distance relationship but then they separate due to misunderstandings and unmet expectations. Lucas ends up having a one night stand after he believe she has moved on and ends up impregnating the girl after their one and only sexual encounter. He marries her but she leaves him after eight years. Two years later his uncle who raised him finds himself dying from cancer and asks Lucas to go back and be around him for his last days and to help his cousin settle before his father passes away.
I liked the book but also found it unsatisfying at the same time. She is supposed to be so mature and good at guiding others through their relationship issues and yet she has a childish and immature side to her equally as strong. Lucas could not make up his mind about what he really wanted out of his relationship with Colleen even the second time around. Colleen was initially very mad at him and still resentful but then seeing how sexually irresistible he was decided to shag him anyway knowing she would get hurt when he left for Chicago. hmmm. But then we get the bomb dropped on us. The book went from describing Colleen as someone who had sporadic sex encounters to being the town slut and well known for it. HUH????. How did that happen? I am not saying she should not be having fun but from what we hear throughout the book to what is sprung on us toward the end is a BIIIIGGGG stretch. Wow. I did not like that turn of events again not because I am being judgmental but because it almost seemed forced and an after thought to get the story going.
Another part I did not like about the book was that he never told Colleen he loved her and yet was supposedly in love with her but then did not leave his wife after the miscarriage and WAS able to tell her he loved her while he was still in love with Colleen. SOOOOO confusing and stupidly complicated.
So I'd say save your credits for something better. Not a bad story but not great either.
"Good story but enuf w/the 'special plcs'-Really?"
This is a great story but the author overuses "special places" & sphincter. I mean--Really???? A bit juvenile. She's also redundant with some words within just a few sentences of each other & then hardly use the word again. But I really liked the story line. Just drop the silly stuff--over trying to be quirky. The narrator is excellent. Great accents & you can always tell a difference in the characters. I will read Book 4, however, despite any issues I have the extras.
