Publisher's Summary

Meet Lauren Halsted.

It's all the little things - the action plans, the long-kept promises - that started falling apart when my life slipped into controlled chaos. After I fell ass over elbow into Matthew Walsh's arms, I couldn't decide whether I wanted to run screaming or rip his pants off, and most days I wanted a little of both. If I was being honest with myself, it was rip his pants off, ride him like a workhorse, and then run screaming.

Meet Matthew Walsh.

A rebellious streak ran through Lauren Halsted. It was fierce and unrelentingly beautiful, and she wasn't letting anyone tell her what to do - unless, of course, she was naked. She wasn't looking for me, and I sure as shit wasn't looking for her, but we found each other anyway, and now we were locked in a battle of wills, waiting for the other to blink.

    "Matthew and Lauren"

Honestly, I have never been more annoyed with a main character than I was with Lauren. She spent 90% of the book pushing Matthew away and making him feel bad. For the first time in a long time, I kind of wished that they didn't end up together. He deserved someone that wouldn't run away every time things got a little difficult. However, I did enjoy the complicated family dynamic.

Christian Fox is one of my favorite narrators and Lucy Rivers did a wonderful job as well

A good listen, but be prepared to be frustrated.

    "Coulda been awesome"

I'm so angry with Lauren that I couldn't enjoy the ending. It took her way too long to stop hurting Matthew and it took him too long to stop letting her do it. Too bad. The writing style is superb, the narrator skilled. I just couldn't stop hating the idiotic female. CS

    "Unexpected!"

I loved this book. I think the story was nice and easy and funny and sexy. It was a good break from the angsty books I usually pick, I feel emotionally charged and full of feel goods.

The narrators, especially Christian Fox, really made this book come to life. Thoroughly impressed all around.

"SORRY.... BUT I HAVE TO TELL IT LIKE I FELT IT"

There are some books where you just can't connect with one or both of the main characters..... and this listen, unfortunately, was one of them and the fault lies between Lauren and me. Lauren was driven to open up her own School and needed the help of an Architect..... in walks the gorgeous Matthew and the sparks (and clothes) flew right from the start along with their undeniable chemistry and lust. But there were problems because Matthew was 100% committed to their relationship but Lauren kept denying it by being aloof, non-committed, distant and blew hot and cold ALL the time..... and I think that's where our problems hung.

Matthew knew what he wanted and that was Lauren so he poured everything he could into their very sexual relationship but his repeated phone calls would go unanswered, his many caring text messages wouldn't get a reply and his concerned emails would be left unopened. Which distracted, confused and frustrated the shit out of him (and me) as he tried to function at his job. But it left me really pissed off with Lauren's continued hot and cold attitude towards his feelings because it was all centred around her School, her career and her wants.... which was to be his sexual toy and nothing more and she completely failed to ever think about Matthew's wants and feelings at all. So, by the end, when Lauren finally saw sense about the wonderful man she had coldly tossed away, it was too little too late for me to salvage any warm and fuzzy feelings for her.

Matthew was a very loving and thoughtful Hero and deserved a far better Heroine than Lauren, Lauren was (for the most part) a misguided, confused, ruthless and heartless Heroine, their romance started with lots of hot sweaty sex and was prefixed, accompanied of followed with lots of dirty talk too. Which was then followed by confusion, heartache, more hot and sweaty sex, unrequited love, rejection, realization and finally a HEA. There was lots of interesting secondary characters including Matthew's large variety of siblings whose bickerings and banter brought light and humor along with them. Drama came in the form of a drunken, abusive and hate-filled Father whose verbal insults were barbed with razors. Dual POV's and good narration.

Worth a credit? Who knows why some listeners will like this one sided love story while I, like Lauren, couldn't fully commit. It could develop into a really good series about the Walsh siblings and so I might give another book a try. But, hand on heart, when I compare this contemporary listen to so many worthy 5 star listens out there, I have to say that, for me, this was more of a $4.95 sale purchase than a creditworthy one.

    "Great series"

Lauren and Matt have a beautiful relationship. Sweet and very HOT. I read this series out of order until I realized it then started over. Each book is amazing. It doesn't ruin the story of listened to out of order either. Great family series

    "Worst heroine"
What about Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers ’s performance did you like?

All of it. Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers are superb.

    Any additional comments?

I dislike the heroine very much. I understand there would be insecurities in the beginning of a relationship but Matthew has made his feelings and desire known to Lauren every time and Lauren just kept blowing him off. I wish they didnt end up together.

"I'm Seriously Gonna Love This Series!"

With just one book, I'm hooked on this complicated, caring family. And I'm so glad there's a full series. Delivered with humor and tenderness, this love story feels authentic. The characters feel like friends, and thier happiness matters which means I was invested.

Fun and entertaining on audio... of course, it's two fabulous narrators. How could it possibly be anything less than great?

"The best first line in an audiobook EVER!"

I wish I could articulate clearly and concisely just how much I loved this audiobook... but I am sure I am going end up just gushing like a teenager. Listening to this book and finding this author has reminded me just why I love audiobooks so much. The eye-catching first sentence caught my eye when I was looking for a freebie on Amazon with an Audible add on and after the first chapter I was captivated by Kate's words and the characters she created.

This is no FSOG/Alpha Billionaire/[insert current popular troupe here] story, Matt and Lauren are believable, real characters who meet and have an instant attraction to each other. I loved that Matt did all the chasing and Lauren wasn't described according to the label of the clothing she wore. You know Matt and Lauren are meant to be together, even though to begin with they are looking for different things. Yes there is a healthy dose of angst between the two, but it isn't contrived and Kate's excellent dual POV enables us to see inside their heads and feeling everything alongside them.

This audiobook had everything I wanted and needed in a good romance: on-point banter, humour, thermonuclear hot sexy times and a great cast of supporting characters, who are in fact Matt's close-knit but crazy siblings who will be getting their own books as the series progresses. I even loved, and this is coming from someone who cannot draw a straight line to save their life, the description of the Walsh Associates architectural firm and the work they do. Such is the vibrancy and uniqueness of this author's voice

The narration is simply outstanding. Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers are just fantastic - I cannot recommend this audiobook book enough and can't wait to listen to the other books in the series

    "So perfect!!"

I loved this book as well as the audio version!! The one thing that will grab you right away is the witty, intelligent writing. I appreciate the descriptiveness without it being too wordy or flowery. Matthew and Lauren had instant chemistry and I love the dual POV. I enjoyed getting inside each of their heads and being a part of their internal dialogue. Lots of sweet, sexy and funny moments peppered throughout this story.

Christian & Lucy do an exceptional job of narrating the novel. They are by far my favorite narrators!

    "Immature Underneath It All"

I can't decide who was more immature: Matthew the hostile, self-absorbed architect or Lauren (28) the workaholic teacher planning to start her own elementary school.

While Kate Canterbury showed great promise as a writer, her supposedly adult characters acted more like insecure adolescents than intelligent, rational grown-ups. When Lauren hired Matthew's family firm to help her find & remodel a building, their instant sexual attraction soon became deeply disturbing and violent.

Matthew's father was a sadist asshole who hated his own children, blaming them for their mother's death. Rather than having him arrested for physical assault and getting a restraining order to keep him from harassing his family, they all accepted his ridiculous abuse. Sadly, the siblings played the victim and took their frustrations out on themselves and the rest of the world.

Matthew was an angry and aggressive man who liked to hit, bite and degrade women, which was strange since he adored his mother's memory and loved his sisters. Matthew became totally obsessed with Lauren, stalking and pressuring her into having a sexual relationship that left her battered and bruised. Matthew thought he cared about Lauren but wasn't actually capable of genuine love or affection.

Considering that Lauren was raised by loving, normal parents, I didn't understand why she was willing to allow Matthew to treat her with such disrespect. Where was her common sense? (example unprotected sex) Rather than hiring help or finding volunteers to assist with her school project, Lauren tried to do everything herself, making her tired and cranky. I admired her dream but didn't understand her martyr act.

Both Matthew and Lauren needed counseling to deal with their personal issues, not a dysfunctional and degrading relationship. I found this book depressing, not romantic, sexy or romantic; at least the narration was excellent.

    "Brilliant"

I have loved this book for quite a long time and have reread countless times.
I decided to try the audiobook not really expecting much.
Wow, what a revelation! This adds a whole new dimension to my understanding of the book.
It truly brings the story to life.
Both Lucy Rivers and Christian Fox are perfect. Whatever they are being paid, it is not enough!!
I am a full convert to audiobooks. Fabulous💕
