Publisher's Summary

Gothic romance with a twist.

Elements of The Sound of Music, The Enchanted Garden, Jane Eyre, and "true" ghost hunting shows make this story feel familiar. Gay love makes it unique.

Seeing an ad for a position at a Yorkshire estate, typesetter Graham Cowrie decides to make an upward career move by passing himself off as a tutor. How hard can it be to teach a few subjects to a pair of nine-year-old boys? But on his arrival at the ancient house, he finds the staff creepy, the twins odd, and the widowed master temporarily absent.

His first meeting with brooding, stern, but oh-so-attractive Sir Richard doesn't go well, but with no other prospects vying for the teaching position, Graham manages to keep it. His mission soon becomes clear: break down the walls of reserve both father and sons have erected, and attempt to bridge the gap between them.

But strange sounds, sights, and experiences keep Graham on edge until he finally admits the Hall is haunted by two entities with very different agendas. Graham works to appease one and combat the other, while protecting the broken family he's grown to care for.

Mystifying

At first I wondered what I down loaded, why, out of my usual.
One thing I will say, it’s a wonderful thing to step out of the usual!
Captivating, haunting, longing, death, sadness, joy and love.. with a kick of the supernatural scariness to push all those senses together..
the last sentence written, before ‘the end’ is stated will be a mantra to live by for everyone
Worth the listen!

Great gothic mystery / romance!!!

Bonnie Dee has written the perfect gothic mystery/romance: slightly creepy, wholly absorbing! In an effort to escape his working-class roots, Graham Cowrie has changed his name, forged his credentials, and applied for the position as tutor to Sir Richard’s 9-yr old twins. He soon runs into a few unforeseen snags: Sir Richard’s wife has recently died, the huge gothic house has a weirdly foreboding air, mysteriously spooky things happen, and the other staff are tight-lipped. He also doesn’t expect to fall for Sir Richard or develop a fierce protection for the boys. I loved the three main storylines here: the ghostly mystery, the incendiary relationship, and the tutoring - they were all deeply satisfying. While this is a gothic horror story, the horror is mild enough for the squeamish. British narrator Ruri / Ruairi Carter gives a great narrative performance here, he is perfect for historical works (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!
