Publisher's Summary

When she was nine years old, Melody Browne's house burned down. As well as destroying all her possessions, the fire took with it all her memories - Melody remembers nothing before her ninth birthday.

Now she hasn't seen her parents since she left home at 15. She's made a life for herself and her son and likes it that way. Until one night she faints at a hypnotist show - and when she comes round she starts to remember. Slowly she begins to piece together the story of her childhood. Her journey takes her to the town of Broadstairs, to oddly familiar houses in London and to strangers who love her like family. But with every mystery she solves another one materialises...

    "The Truth about Melody Browne"
If you could sum up The Truth about Melody Browne in three words, what would they be?

    Fantastic gripping story

Who was your favorite character and why?

Matty, I loved they way he was written and so honest :)

Have you listened to any of Julie Maisey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I absolutely love her narration, I have found new authors by searching the other books she has narrated.

    Any additional comments?

This is a great story!! I never usually listen to books under 10 hours but I love Lisa Jewell and I really enjoy Julie Maisey's narration, so I thought this would be a winner. I was right!! this is a fabulous story and I couldn't stop listening to it!
Melody has no memory of her life before 9 years old and then it all starts to come back. I even had tears at the end of this book, happy ones, and also sad ones because the story was finished.

A heartwarming story, jumps around between the past and present a little too much for my liking but a nice plot.

    Story
    "Bear with..."
What did you like best about The Truth about Melody Browne? What did you like least?

I liked the tempo, the easy read/listen that Lisa Jewell books never fail to offer. But it is true, the narrator takes a bit of getting used to, she does at first sound like an automated phone banking system but bear with it as she does eventually warm up with the characters. However because of this I can't say I found much love for the characters in the way I normally would. Having said that, it's a good story and I did enjoy it.

What did you like best about this story?

The good feeling of optimism despite it all , a simple story chopped into different date ranges kept me interested and I was kind of sad when it finished as I wanted to know a bit more about what happened to Melody and how her life had changed.

Did Julie Maisey do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Hmm, ok I s'pose. The male characters were the best.

Did The Truth about Melody Browne inspire you to do anything?

    No

    Any additional comments?

A better narrator (sorry Julie Maisey) would have made this more enjoyable for me. If you like Lisa Jewell's other books you'll like the too.

    "Better than any TV!"

I have read most of Lisa Jewell's books and this one lives up to her usual high standard. The characters are very three dimensional and I got involved in their somewhat turbulent lives. The book seemed to be saying something about "not judging a book by its cover" in terms of the very disparate lives lived by the characters, some of whom you might dismiss as very eccentric if you met them but who turn out to be the "salt of the earth". A very enjoyable, emotionally moving and absorbing read. Looking forward to her next book.

    "The Truth About Melody Browne"

I've read just about everything Lisa Jewell has ever written and this book was a bit more serious than her usual subject matter with all sorts of twists and turns in the plot. However, it held my attention right from the first page through to the last and just goes to show how she can turn her pen to anything!

Super characters, a well-thought out plot and beautifully read. I really enjoyed it.
