This is a lovely, light enjoyable read. The characters here are very black and white - the good guys are wonderful and the bad guys are BAD. Normally this would frustrate me but for some reason it did not in this book. Instead I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the stories of the main characters. The romantic outcomes are predictable but the characters are so warm and the story telling so enchanting that I found I finished this book very quickly. Another cup of Milly Johnson? Yes please.
"I love Milly Johnson books"
Yes I would, it was just a lovely story.
I liked all the characters in the book and how they all connected up with each other.
All of them but probably Sean and Will were my favorites
All of them :)
This was just a typical lovely Milly Johnson story. Sadly I listened to it way too fast and am sad it's finished now. Come on Milly, get writing please!
"Love these books and narrator."
Love these books and narrator. Real-ish women characters, real problems, good coverage of this age group. Glad don't have to read them in order since listened to this one first...
"Warm ur heart"
Story about good people each with a past and how their paths crossed and an unlikely bond was formed. Enjoyable light read
"Heartwarming, Sweet, and Held my Attention"
Since my favorites have been Erica James books, this one fit right in with my top ranked audiobooks so far.
All the descriptions of cake! And the lovable, varied set of characters.
Mr. Singh, but they were all consistently distinct.
It was an ensemble piece, so it's hard to say.
A feel good book, through and through. Appealed to my romantic nature without being cheesy or over the top. Just lovely!
"lovely, heartwarming story (or rather stories)"
Superbly interwoven stories of several very likable characters. Had and held my attention from the very first minute. Be warned: The beginning might lead you into thinking that this develops into a revenge story, however, it’s all about love and caring for each other.
"Great story - more than a typical romance"
Although this is labeled a romance, it is about many characters's lives and the trials and the friendships in life. Ms. Johnson's characters come to life. I thoroughly enjoyed this whole book.
This was such a lovely story. I would at times catch myself just sitting in my car waiting to get to the end of a chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed this recording.
"Light, lovely and thoroughly enjoyable!"
I had not expected to love this novel, but in the end, I really did. The author is skilled, her characters are charming and fully believable. Just what I needed when I found it!
The story started slow but was wonderful once it got going a few chapters in.
"just could not get into the story,"
maybe.. I would probably go to the library to try one first. the narrator was OK, just not great.
the gril fro Sofie Consella's books
"Enchanting what a fabstory"
Yes. The nice characters were lovely and the horrible ones were horrible! I buy Milly Johnson's books as soon as the come out, they are always a treat. I love the narrators voice too.
Probably her other books except for It's Raining Men which was a bit more fantasy.
What can I say, everything, her inflections and the rythm of her accent brings the story to life. I ordered some of the back catalogue that I had previously read as I love her book. I'm so glad Ms Johnson chooses the same narrator every time.
I cried in parts. I never cry but I did.
When's the next one coming out??
"One of Milly Johnson's best!"
I doubt that it is better but it certainly passed several hours of somewhat tedious work around the house in a very pleasant way, impossible with the print version.
It is not dissimilar to other books by the author in that it is an ensemble story, featuring a group of characters with one thing in common, lives that are not particularly happy. The actual reasons are varied, but loneliness is the underlining problem in all the cases.
There was no outstanding character, the joy of the book was in that they were all interesting and so well portrayed by Colleen Prendergast.
Not particularly. It was pleasant to know that I had the story to return to when I needed a pick-up during the day.
No murders or gratuitous violence, no vast sums of money or Hollywood lifestyles, just a story about a group of ordinary, but pleasant people who find in each other the support and friendship that they were lacking and the ability to cope with the problems that life had chucked at them. The whole book gives one a nice warm feeling.
"Really great easy listen/read 😌"
I hadn't anticipated that this would constitute a 5* listen/read. My usual reads are more 'meaty'. However, within the genre, this one is really pretty great!
It didn't make me laugh out loud or cry, but it did warm my heart, make me smile and move me.
At first 'glance', this is a little 'chick lit' book, but its actually so much more than that. The characters are so well drawn and, for the most part, likeable. They each have rich stories. Its beautifully paced and a really lovely book. I may even read/listen (to) it again when I need a 'snuggle-up', good quality read/listen, something I very rarely do.
I knocked one star off for narration due to a couple of errors that should have been edited better. Not at all the fault of the narrator, who did an excellent job!
"What a pleasant surprise!"
I've not seen the print version so couldn't say
They are all so well written its not necessary to have favourites
I liked her simple interpretation and found it charming easy listening but my husband found her voice irritating,
Not sure what you mean by this?
This is a charming book which captures your attention early on with it's first surprise event and Milly Johnson keeps your interest with the weaving of her ordinary characters and how their lives are improved by knowing each other. A feel-good book in the best sense and I was sorry when it came to an end so I will buy something else from this author with my next credit.
"Do not Judge a Book by its Cover!"
I brought this book as it was recommended and it has been absolutely delightful!
Do not judge a book by its cover. The cover looks like the book might be one dimensional, but is it so far from this.
The story is lovely with so many twists and turns. Really heart-warming. I have already brought more audiobooks by this author. I would have scored the narration more, but there was one point where there was poor editing and the narrator apologised for forgetting to do an accent.
The story is about how a teashop brings people together. These individuals have all suffered some adversity. Great story.
"Emotional roller coaster"
Left me in tears at the end
Well crafted and immensely enjoyable.
Brilliant read and recommended for everyone of any age
"A great story"
A very well written story that was told beautifully!!! Warm friendly characters which you can picture with ease!! Good read!!
Another good book by Milly Johnson, upsetting in parts but very enjoyable. Looking forward to hearing another one of her books.
"CHICKLIT WITH A BIT OF BACKBONE & LOTS OF LOVE "
First book read by this author, intend reading more! Easy read, Full of character, and entertaining :-)
"Excellent again from Milly Johnson"
I listen to lots of audio books and i have been impressed with all of those by Milly Johnson, i love to read her books too
The Yorkshire Pudding Club, Here come the Girls - both by Milly Johnson. They are easy listening and have great characters. I think if you like Fern Britton and Lucy Diamond you will like this book too.
She brings the characters to life and makes them very believable
Ryan's story and the relationship between Molly and Harvey.
