Critic Reviews

"A story that is both happy and a work of art...Altogether a joyous and lovely thing. ( The New York Times)
"Of such classic design its action might take place at any point across a thousand years." ( San Francisco Chronicle)
"Mishima is like Stendhal in his precise psychological analyses, like Dostoevsky in his explorations of darkly destructive personalities." ( Christian Science Monitor)

Japanese novel

Very lovely and poetic novel about a true love which could only have been a dream but turned differently. I loved learning about the island’s custom and tradition, I felt for the diving woman and also for the harsh life of fisherman and their stoicism. Overall very well written, for me a book that I kept reading with passion until the last page.
A story of resilience and pride.

Gentle and Beautiful.

I came to Yukio Mishima after having read an autobiography on him. This novel could not have painted a more different picture of my expectations, having learned of the author’s darkly troubled internal world. This story was a sweet delight. As gentle and beautiful and rhythmic as the sound of waves.
