Story
The knight was supposed to be a man. Not me, Sophie MacKnight, a marketing associate from California. This must be a practical joke that the Scots play on visiting Americans. Because otherwise I’ve inherited a haunted castle in Scotland, along with one irritatingly sexy Scotsman, who would be delighted if I turned tail and ran. Frankly, I thought I would fly here, sell the heap of bricks, and head back home to a life that I…well, I was comfortable with at the very least. Instead, the people of Loren Brae are in trouble, and it appears that as the new owner of the castle.

Publisher's Summary
A Sweeping Saga
As the sole survivor of the car crash that killed her parents, grief-stricken paramedic Kit MacKlenna is stunned to learn her life is built on lies. A legacy from her father includes a faded letter and a well-worn journal. The journal reveals she was abandoned as a baby 160 years ago. The only clues to her identity are a blood-splattered shawl, a locket with the portrait of a 19th century man, and a Celtic brooch with magical powers. Kit decides to continue her father's 25-year search for her identity and solve her birth parents' murders.
Scotsman Cullen Montgomery, a San Francisco-bound lawyer who resembles the ghost who has haunted Kit since childhood, helps her join a wagon train heading west. More dangerous than the river crossings, bad water, and disease encountered on the trail is Cullen's determination to expose her lies and uncover the source of her unusual knowledge and lifesaving powers.
Kit is convinced that if she can survive the perilous journey and Cullen's accusations, as well as thwart his attempts to seduce her, she might solve the mystery of her heritage and return home without leaving her heart on the other side of time.

Great story but narrator is awful
I enjoyed this story due to the content but extremely disappointed with the narrator.
Extreme American accent, cold and rather like a computer. The only parts she read well was the Scottish accents, the rest was awful.

Great Story... but
The narration is not really to my liking. the Fake American Accent is very annoying. The story seems to resemble Outlander. Wish Davina Porter had narrated this. Not sure if i will listen to the other books

Doesn’t live up to the potential
I was initially excited but as the story went on I lost interest. Slow and dull in parts. I eventually gave up without finishing.
The narrator doesn’t help sound a bored as I was.

Dull, wooden
Sadly I couldn't finish this book. The storyline has potential but the characters lack vitality/emotion and the narrator does not do them any favors.
