What if the perfect match is a perfect surprise?
Honor Holland has just been unceremoniously rejected by her lifelong crush. And now - a mere three weeks later - Mr. Perfect is engaged to her best friend. But resilient, reliable Honor is going to pick herself up, dust herself off, and get back out there… or she would if dating in Manningsport, New York, population 715, wasn't easier said than done.
Charming, handsome British professor Tom Barlow just wants to do right by his unofficial stepson, Charlie, but his visa is about to expire. Now Tom must either get a green card or leave the States - and leave Charlie behind.
In a moment of impulsiveness, Honor agrees to help Tom with a marriage of convenience - and make her ex jealous in the process. But juggling a fiancé, hiding out from her former best friend, and managing her job at the family vineyard isn't easy. And as sparks start to fly between Honor and Tom, they might discover that their pretend relationship is far too perfect to be anything but true love.

"Another perfect story from Kristan Higgins"
This book was so good I listened to it two times in a row and still loved it! Kristan Higgins writes the best scenes where the heroine is mortified and then digs her out of them. In the Perfect Match, Honor Holland embarrasses herself by showing up at her on-again-off-again lover's house in just her Burberry coat in an attempt to convince him that getting married is a good idea. Of course it doesn't go well and she finds herself single and alone at the age of 35 with no marital prospects in site. A couple weeks later she finds out her best friend is now engaged to that same ex-lover and the two girls get into a cat fight at the local bar. When the opportunity to meet her grandmother's pen pal's nephew arises, she sets up a meeting with him where they don't exactly hit it off. The story gets better and better from there and pretty soon you're totally engrossed in finding out if poor Honor will ever find happiness. I loved the hero of this story - he saves Honor numerous times from danger or humiliation. The part of the story where they found a snake in her grandparents' basement made me laugh hysterically just visualizing the whole scene. If you like romance stories that touch your heart, do yourself a favor and get this book, you'll love it!
"OK story, but not the narration"
Maybe the book, not the audio version.
The narrator detracted from the story. Her accents were terrible. The hero, Tom, sounded like a Aussie rather than a Brit from Manchester, England. And the sisters, especially the oldest, Pru, sounded like Valley Girls from the 1980s. And the term "mate" was definitely overused.
Although by the half-way point I was thoroughly disappointed in the narration, I listened all the way through to see how the author would play out the story.
I listened to the first book in the series, The Best Man, and, while it had flaws, it was rather cute and the narration seemed to work. But this book just didn't have the same feeling. I very quickly became tired of the heroine's, Honor, lovesickness over her "friend-with-benefits." I just felt as if the moping went on too long. If I had read the book first, I might have felt different, but by the middle of the story I wanted to say "grow up and move on already." And the hero often came across as a self-serving pain in the butt. I won't waste my time or money on the rest of the series. A shame, too, since I generally like Kristan Higgins.
"Can't Go Wrong With Kristan Higgins"
This was a great listen. She is a wonderful storyteller. If you like contemporary romance, you will LOVE this book.
"Best book so far in the TBH series"
This is the best book so far in the tbh series. I laughed, cried, was excited, nervous and the romance was wonderful. Didn't want it to end. Good book, on to book 3
"The Perfect Match"
This is the second book in the Blue Heron series by Kristan Higgins. Another great book and great narration by Amy Rubinate. HEA and no cliffhanger. .
"Very nice story"
I really enjoyed this book. it was a nice love story. I love the finger lakes region of new York , the scenery, the wineries so I really enjoy the references to the landscape. looking forward to listening to the next book in this series!
Fantastic listen! Entertaining and engaging - ending made me wish for a sequel. Will definitely select another audio book by Kristan Higgins.
"Not Your Most Romantic Romance"
Sure. Because I started this series out of order, I had to go back to get some back stories. But this was not my most favorite, although I liked it.
Yes, already have.
Yes, already have
Maybe. But they would have to combine events from several of the books to make one good lifetime movie. Definitely not adaptable for the big screen.
Not the most romantic of romance novels, but it had some moments.
""What if the perfect match is a perfect surprise?""
Mrs. J - I love her no nonsense ways.
Honor - She has a plan and if you are under her umbrella of protection, there is nothing she won't do for what or who she loves.
I have only listened to her perform the Blue Heron series. She is great.
there were a few parts in the book that moved me but would be spoilers if i went into detail. I will say I cried more than once.
Absolutely LOVED this book. I laughed out loud and cried. The story and characters pull you in and bury themselves into your soul.
Honor is the sensible sister. Making lists, planning everything, working 16 hours a day, wearing sensible shoes... On the day she decides to throw caution to the wind and propose to her "friend with benefits" she is shattered by his rejection. Her B.... of a best friend swoops in, steals her man and voila, Honor finds herself in bed with a Hot British stranger. Together Tom and Honor concoct a business arrangement in order for Tom to gain a green card and she can have a baby. She wasn't supposed to fall in love with him.
Struggle to finish. Read one other book by this author and storyline and character portrayals very similar. Won't be reading another book by this author.
