Publisher's Summary

Life was good for Liz and Jack Sutherland. In 18 years of marriage, they had built a family, a successful law practice, and a warm, happy home near San Francisco, in a house on Hope Street. Then, in an instant, it all fell apart. It began like any other Christmas morning, with joy and children's laughter. But for Jack Sutherland, a five-minute errand ends in tragedy. And suddenly Liz is alone, facing painful questions in the wake of an unbearable loss.

How can she go on without her husband, her partner, her best friend? How can she grieve when she must console five devastated children, including one with special needs of his own? Powered by her children's love, Liz finds the strength to return to work, to become mother and "daddy," coaching her youngest son for the Special Olympics. And one by one the holidays come and go before her eyes: Valentine's Day without flowers and without Jack...Easter...July 4....Then, just weeks before Labor Day, a devastating accident sends her oldest son to the hospital - and brings a doctor named Bill Webster into her life. Bill becomes a friend to Liz as he slowly heals her shattered son.

And as the long days of summer blend into fall, a new relationship offers new hope, and Liz reflects on what she has, on what she's lost, on the blessings that give strength when nothing else is left. Then, with the first anniversary of her husband's death approaching, and with it another Christmas in the house on Hope Street, Liz will face one more crisis before she can look back at a year of mourning and change - and ahead to the beginning of a new life.

The House on Hope Street is about learning to live again after you think life is over, about getting up when you have been knocked down, again and again. It is about cherishing small miracles, and believing in big ones. It is above all about hope.

    Story
"Typical Danielle Steele, but always a twist."
What made the experience of listening to The House on Hope Street the most enjoyable?

There are events near the beginning of the book that actually brought me to tears. And not just tears, but sobs. Perhaps because of events in my past, so it may not affect everyone as it affected me.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It got pretty predictable in the last third of the book, and goofy too. But it was a good read.

    Which scene was your favorite?

No giveaways. The scenes near the beginning.

    Any additional comments?

Joseph Siravo did an excellent narration. Had never heard him before and I really enjoyed him.

When she had to tell her children about their father.

What about Joseph Siravo’s performance did you like?

I like all the books he reads.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

This is an excellent book related to the hardships a family goes through in loosing a loved one and almost loosing a second. I can not believe anyone could give this a rating less than 3.5 to 4.0.

    Story
    "One of Danielle's best."

I listen to all of her books. Some are a 'one listen' story. This one is one of her best and I could listen to it many times.
Danielle Steel is prolific, writing 4 to 6 books each year.
She often writes about a group of people with different personalities and life challenges who get to live together.
The House On Hope Street is one of these. It is incredibly satisfying, with a strong cast of interesting characters and a great plot.
It took me away from my life and entertained me like a good book should.
OK, it's predictable in places. But that's the joy of Danielle.
A feel good listen with an excellent narrator and perhaps a surprise here and there along the way.
