Publisher's Summary

Winner of the Miles Franklin Literary Award.

Meet Jimmy Flick. He's not like other kids - he's both too fast and too slow. Jimmy's mother, Paula, is the only one who can manage him. She teaches him how to count sheep so that he can fall asleep. She holds him tight enough to stop his cells spinning. It is only Paula who can keep Jimmy out of his father's way. But when Jimmy's world falls apart, he has to navigate life on his own and make things right.

At first I found Jimmy to be really annoying...but as the book went on ... a deeper understanding of this beautiful troubled little boy overtook you. Terrific writing.

    "Sad"

Troubled lives, quite q depressing tale that gives a real insight into living on the fringe. How is it that some families have such tragic stories, one tragedy on top of another.
This is certainly a case of "life wasn't meant to be easy!"

    "Highly recommended"

A great read. The performance by Nikos is excellent. I was challenged by the story and fell in love with the characters. I feel the story got a little lost in the middle but it was easy to forgive and just enjoy it for the wonderful yet heartbreaking look into the lives of so many in society today.

    "A book in two halves"

I loved the first half of this book, loved Jimmy and seeing the world through his eyes. Unfortunately I felt the storyline lost it's way in the second half and became quite inconceivable....particularly the rushed and all to neatly tied up ending. The narrator was excellent though.
