Publisher's Summary

"Just calm down," Major Casals said quietly.

Bibleman seated himself. He discovered that his hands were shaking. To himself he thought, I was born in the wrong century. A hundred years ago this wouldn't have happened and a hundred years from now it will be illegal. What I needs is a lawyer....

Now he had been set up by a robot, a cheap machine, to shovel shit in the boonies, dragooned by a mechanical scam. This was not a college he was going to; he had won nothing. He had won a stint at some kind of forced-labor camp, most likely. The exit door leads in, he thought to himself. Which is to say, when they want you they already have you; all they need is the paperwork. And a computer can process the forms at the touch of a key. The H key for hell and the S key for slave, he thought. And the Y key for you.

    "A Brilliant Short Story"

It is difficult to write a review on such a short story without giving the plot away, but having seen the other review, I can tell you this as a burgeoning Philip K. Dick audio book coinsure:

This is a brilliant short story by Philip K. Dick (PKD), read masterfully by Paul Michael Garcia. Since I consider PKD to be a dystopian science fiction writer and social commentator, the funny tone and plot of this story initially sounded very un-PKD like. But having listened to this short story once by myself and twice with friends, I can see that this certainly is one of the finest short stories by PKD. It is an extremely witty story, with somewhat of a gut-wrenching ending. As stated, I think Paul Michael Garcia’s reading was dead on as it captured the “voice” of the protagonist, and the seeming absurdity of his life perfectly. Highly recommended.

    "Classic PKD"

Dick showing his deep distrust of authority, and conern that modernity makes us cogs in a machine. But there's a twist.

    "definately not the best reading"

The reader sounds like a computer, even though you know he's not one. A totally unemotional reading. Otherwise an interesting story.
