Simon Basset, the irresistible Duke of Hastings, has hatched a plan to keep himself free from the town's marriage-minded society mothers. He pretends to be engaged to the lovely Daphne Bridgerton. After all, it isn't as if the brooding rogue has any real plans to marry - though there is something about the alluring Miss Bridgerton that sets Simon's heart beating a bit faster.
And as for Daphne, surely the clever debutante will attract some very worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable. But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, she soon forgets that their courtship is a complete sham. And now she has to do the impossible and keep herself from losing her heart and soul completely to the handsome hell-raiser who has sworn off marriage forever!

Where do I start! I didn't want it to end. It was a delight from the first chapter throughout the end. Not boring at all. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, spontaneous comedy & sarcasm, filled with mixed emotions! Listen to it! You won't regret.
"Made me laugh out loud!"
Witty banter, touching romance, lots of fun with the heroine's family and the wonderful Rosalyn Landor.
The humor and romance.
When the heroine's 3 older brothers are taken out of her house by her mother, made me laugh and laugh!
Worth the credit for sure. My first listen from this author, will try another.
"I liked it a lot"
I really enjoyed this romance. It is a good story with good characters. The Bridgeton family is made up of 9 great characters - the mother and 8 children. Daphne, the eldest daughter is the heroine in this book. She get involved with the Duke of Hastings who suffers with a stammer and his hatred of his wicked father. Can the love a good woman help him get over his problems?
"Well worth the wait!!!"
Squee!!!! I had wanted this book many years ago and it was perfect. Well worth the wait and I must have the others ASAP!!!!!!
"mostly good with slight consent issues"
This book is mostly good and fun, but ends up with some really uncomfortable consent issues halfway through, unfortunately.
Well read. Good story and characters. I'll buy another book from this author. Carry on.
"loved the book!"
Overalll a very good book and I am super glad the couple got their happy ending. I really enjoyed the 2nd epilogue but would have to say it was a bit long. I feel like it could have been several minutes shorter. it was nice hearing how the characters lives were though.
"A Book That Evokes Powerful Emotions!"
Love conquers all.
The overall story: The old Duke's loss because of his pride. The results from the young Earl living his life for revenge against his father, the Duke; even after he is gone. A secret sham marriage proposal between the young Duke and his best friends sister.
I have enjoyed Ms. Landor's narrations many times. They were all excellent.
The folly of pride and revenge.
Well written and narrated, well worth a credit.
The story is predictable; a character with hidden issues (that's Simon) and a know it all women. She knows best and triumphs over his "issues."
Nonetheless, it is entertaining. The characters bickering and fun bantering makes for a light cheerful read. The narrator and, of course, Julia Quinn know how to make a charming diversion.
""I fancy you in response to I adore you""
That response made me burst out laughing. It was a cute book. Typical love story with a similar storyline nevertheless entertaining.
Really liked this book. I am not one to give things away so you are just going to have to read it. But I highly recommend it to other readers.
"At last - the Bridgertons come to audio in style!"
It's been some time since I read the book and I'd forgotten how damn good it is. The romance between Simon and Daphne is beautifully developed and I adored how the author shows that Simon - in particular - is head-over-heels in love without knowing it or suspecting it.
The angsty parts work very well; I know that Daphne's actions towards the end of the book are practically unforgiveable, but they are, to an extent, understandable, if not excusable.
Rosalyn Landor's narration is everything any listener could want and is absolutely on the button every time. There are a handful of other narrators I adore who could undoubtedly have made a good job of this, but I honestly don't think any one of them could have done it quite as well. RL is something special when it comes to historical romance, and proves it yet again here.
