A love affair... between Matt Shaw, self-made property tycoon, and Eliza Clark, dazzling fashion editor and one-time Deb of the Year. Their story spans sixties London, the extravagance of Milan and the lovely decaying country house that has been in Eliza's family for generations, and the source of huge trouble itself.
A marriage...Passionate, and difficult, the conflicts increased by social as well as professional pressures, Matt and Eliza's lives become irrevocably divided and entwined with others: Jeremy Northcott, charming, successful advertising man; the beautiful, flamboyant Italian fashion icon, Mariella Crespi; Matt's sister Scarlett, with her own complex love affairs. And then there is Louise, Matt's touch and sassy business partner, as successful as him and fighting for her own future.
A child...Emmie, adored, precocious, and ultimately the victim of her parents' doomed marriage, she both holds them together and drives them apart. The decision...which is agonizing and desperate, and taken in the divorce courts - where truths will be told, secrets revealed and reputations shattered .
And, at the heart of it all, lies the fate of a little girl.

"Loved every Minute of the 30 Hours!! Best Ever"
This is by far the best book I have downloaded yet. 30 hours seemed daunting, but I hated for it to finally end. There were no wasted words, so if you are like me and do not like endless description, this is a great book. The character development was great, the story was great. Well I am not one for long reviews, suffice to say I would give this a 10 if I could. A marvellous family saga, enough romance in it without being too sappy, and certainly it was all believable. It takes place in the 60's to 70's in London. I so recommend this book.
I have read every Vincenzi book and this was my first audio version. I really enjoyed it and the narrator was superb. I will be sticking with audio from now on as i was truely transported from London to Italy and back again, I loved it!!
"Mostly enjoyably but stretched out a bit too much"
I made it to the end but lost interest 2 thirds through the story as plot wore thin.
Superb story as always from Vincenzi. l couldn't stop listening. l have been having some treatment, which is an hour long and this book has been a delight to listen to. If you don't have audible you really should join.
"Did not want it to end"
Yes l would not be able to bring so much life to all the characters I was taken back to my youth, each character was brought to life by the narrator in this wonderful story I fell in and out of love I just did not want it to end.
There were so many memorable moments but if I have to pick one it would have to be when Eliza!s barrister explains why she should continue her battle for custody of her child.
She brings everything I felt I was listening to a play not just one person she is a genius.
There were a few moments that moved me Scarlett's decision to terminate her pregnancy, Matt not making Louise a partner, the break up of the marriage and the way the judge summed it all up at the end.
I loved listening to this book the story and the wonderful narrative transported me back to the sixties and seventies a time when I thought we were so modern and forward thinking!!
Disliked the narrator too many really bad accents from the narrator, condescending and painful to listen to.
"Enjoyable easy listening"
I enjoyed this book - although the story is perhaps a little predictable. Nevertheless I enjoyed listening to it. At first I found the narration a little irritating, but soon got into the story and found it quite suitable to the story.
"Excellent novel, extremely well written."
Absolutely because I love the characters so much.
I love the way Penny Vincenzi gets inside her characters. As a reader I feel I not only know the characters but they are personal friends of mine. I become emotionally involved with each one of them.
Sandra Duncan performs all the characters extremely well.
I love the length of Penny Vincenzi long novels
"I'd have made the Decision earlier"
more than just a chick lit but does have a happy ever after quality.
not everyone needs a man/women to for fill their lives and this is set a little earlier than my time but found that relationships a bit frustrating at times.
I did however enjoy this read/listen
I just found this rather long and rather dull nothing seems to happen, I did give it about three hours but had to give up.
Involving plot line, interesting characters, well written and read. I enjoyed from start to finish. Vincenzi at her very best!
