The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.
Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana - and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander's impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects - a secret as devastating as the war itself - as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.

Just the best story I was so happy to see it in audible and can't wait for the rest of the series. I found the voice of Alexander a bit odd more Irish accent than American and I think a female narrator might have been better but I didn't even notice after the first hour as the story is so consuming. Fantastic audiobook
All of the book was memorable except the sex scenes I am not sure why this was needed, not my style.
When Tatiana was with her father in the hospital when he passed away, she loved him even though he did not treat her well, like all of her family.
This book made me sad and angry for what the people had to go through.
The loss of so many family members it is amazing that the ones left were able to keep going on.
I've been to Volgograd, the city that was once Leningrad. There is an amazing museum where you can walk around as if you are viewing the WWII siege from above. This book has added a new dimension to understanding just what happened to the ordinary Russians there. I could not stop listening to this book, a love story unfolding within the brutality, 'unreason', horror and tragedy that faced the millions of people who died and for those that somehow survived-
What a beautiful story of love and grief. I thoroughly enjoyed this. I did feel the Scottish accent for Alexander was a little "outlander" but it worked.
Great story. I don't usually go for war time stories but on the recommendation of a friend I listened to this one. I think the narrators accents were dodgy, Alexander sounded Scottish to me but I still bonded with the characters. I believe there is s sequel and I'll need to get it to see what happens next!!
A wonderful Wife & Mother, trying to find time for myself. Love to loose myself in the moment, listening to a fantastic audio book.
I read this book 10 years ago and couldn't put it down. When I saw it on Audible, I just had to listen to it again.
This is a beautiful story of love between two people, Alexander Belove and Tatijana Metanova who struggle through war and family devide to keep their unconditional love for each other alive. Hoping one day they will be together forever.
if there is one book you have to listen to this year, make sure it is The Bronze Horsman. You won't regret it. A wonderful and truly beautiful story. Thank you Paullina Simons...xxx
I do wish that that the other books in this series was on audible. This is a wonderful story.
"Please give us the other two books in the series!!"
I absolutely love this story I fell in love with it from the first chapter Paulina is an amazing writer. It would be an honor for me to listen to the other two books read by this narrator also, James Langton did a marvelous job. His voice brought all the characters alive couldn't stop listening. Please once again the next two books of the trilogy would be wonderful. No one should miss listening to this love story. My Grandfathers were in WWll on the US side and I throughly enjoy these stories, they tell how everyone suffered so much and all is for freedom to live and love under God. Thank You!
"MOST BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY EVER!!"
YES!! A THOUSAND TIMES YES!! I'll probably play it out till it breaks!!
This story was released a few months ago by a different narrator and he absolutely ruined the story! I don't know why but it was re-done by James Langton and I'm so grateful!!! He did Fabulous! Awesome! Wonderful!! I'll never forget it!! I wanna kiss him!! He brought the best story I've ever read alive like no one else could!!
So... I read this book like 3 years ago and since then I've read it at least 4 more times. I was never going to review it. Not because I didn't like it but because I'm scared of the inadequacy of my words. There are just no words. Do you hear me? NO. WORDS. That can explain to you the AWESOME EPICNESS that is The Bronze Horseman.
I use the word awesome because what it means...
adjective1.causing or inducing awe; inspiring an overwhelming feeling of reverence of admiration...
That's just an inch of the feelings you get when you read the story of Tatiana and Alexander. For me it was this all consuming reverence that made me feel like my heart was being clutched in someone's fist.
It was heartbreak and joy.
Agony and happiness.
Desolation and reparation.
Grief and love.
It was sorrow and adoration.
Brutality and tenderness.
It was hunger and it was fulfillment.
It was regret and it was devotion.
It's my true love. Like the one person who no matter where they are, or who came before or after, it will ALWAYS be that person. Well for me The Bronze Horseman is incomparable.
I keep it on my night stand always. Whenever I miss them, I just flip it open and no matter where it falls I am sure to be sucked right back in to the beautiful tragedy of Tatiana and Alexander. It's filled with war that will leave you heartsick and a love so shattering it will leave you breathless. Don't take my inadequate words for it. Read it. I promise you. You'll never find another book thats written in such elegant poetic prose.
FYI: For the full impact of this story I'd suggest reading it first then doing to audio version :)
This book was amazing and the love story is epic!!!.

"Poignant from start to finish."
Great prospective of Soviet Union during WWII. A love story always brings history to life.
This is one of the absolute best books I've ever read. The saga of the two innocents and their unending love will sweep you away!
Read this book years ago, was so happy to finally hear the story told. It was gut wrenchingly beautiful. A lovely story full of love, hope, and life. The history of Russia during WWII was told with such vividness, I felt that I was there.
This novel is captivating. Unfortunately the 'voice' of tatianA recalls a high pitched, yet mousy female....which she is not. However, the story keeps you 'glued to your ear phones'
Excellent story. I did not like the narrator. He was very good with male voices but just awful with female.
Wonderful story very sad really disappointed in the narration He doesn't have a very good woman voice
"It made me cry"
What a wonderful love story. I was gripped from start to finish. The cold of the Russian winter seeped through the text and the love of Alex and Tatiana burned through. I never wanted it to end and sorely missed it when it did. The characters were beautifully drawn and Paulina Simons writing flowed beautifully.
Just brilliant. Gripping, passionate and emotional. Once I got into it, I couldn't stop listening.
"A Love Story"
A little long ,I think it could have been shorter but a good listen. Well told.
