Raffaello (Rafe) Palazzo takes what he wants with no regrets. Arianna (Ari) Lynn Harlow has led a charmed life until tragedy strikes her family. He's looking for a no-emotions-attached mistress. She's looking for redemption. They are not a pair that should ever work, but undeniable attraction and devastating tragedies bring them together in the city by the bay where he fights to keep their relationship nothing more than an enjoyable way to meet his needs, and she battles to not lose herself in him.
Spending time with Ari starts cracking the hard shell that Rafe has built around his heart, but he denies the affect she has on him until it's too late to stop the inevitable conclusion that their relationship is headed for. Rafe once believed in happily ever after, coming from a large Italian family. He's got the Midas touch, since every endeavor he tries turns to gold. That all ends when his wife walks out the door and leaves him blindsided. His devastation quickly turns to steel when he decides no woman will fool him again. From that point on he treats relationships as nothing more than business transactions where both party's come out mutually benefited.
Just when Ari has sunk to the lowest she's ever been she finds an ad in the paper announcing a job that's too good to be true. It turns out she's right. She makes it through the intense rounds of interviews only to find out the job is for a mistress to the powerful Rafe Palazzo, owner of Palazzo Enterprises. Rafe gives her a day to think about whether she wants the position or not, and she's sent on her way, only to find out her mother's near-terminal position has taken a turn for the worse. Her mom's only in the hospital because Ari messed up, and her mother's the one who paid the price. Is Rafe her savior, or will he take her with him straight to the depths of hell?

"WOW! So good that I am upset volume 2 is not out.."
I really like this book so so much... I was really upset at the end, b/c I just knew volume 2 wasn't out. I usually wait until at least 2 book in a series are out before I get it... But I took a chance and I loved this. Now I am left wanting more...
Rafe was HOT! Ari was so cute on how she tried to be all serious but completely gave in to Rafe. I liked Rafe's family too. His sister were a hoot! Great Great book... will leave you wanting more... Cliffhanger ending!!! BEWARE!!!
Great Credit or Buy... but you might want to wait until book 2 comes out b/c it will leave you craving more...
Narration was great.
It's a shame the narrator was not good as the story has potential. I did not like Saskia's portrayal of Rafe's voice at all. It grinded on my nerves the entire book. If another narrator is used for the next book i might continue with the series but i will give it a miss if Saskia is narrator.
"Oh this series started off gooodd... :)"
There was a contract, resistant, drama, stalking, oh and that cliffhanger had me raging and wanting so much more!! Audibles needs more MA books ASAP. This book already has me ready to "Surrender" my money for the rest of the series. Happy Listening!
"Save your credits and/or money"
No, I love this genre, but this book was awful.
To be fair, Im not sure the narrator was all that bad. It could have been the poor dialog.
I would cut the many times she complained about being kidnapped. Once is good, twice is OK, but more than 3 times, give me a break. I would also cut the scene where the ex-wife appeared. It truly had no bearing on the story, and just took up space.
In this story the heroine, Ari is a girl with no backbone. She caves anytime any pressure comes her way. She doesn't want to go to the club, but she goes. She doesn't want to wear a slutty dress and make up, but she does. She doesn't wan to go to the beach and take off her wrap, but off it comes. She even gets forced into a game of volleyball she doesn't want to play; blah! I hate it when the women in stories are made up of mush. Her "friends" are the worst. It really brings the phrase "with friends like them who needs enemies" to the forefront. Her relationship with her mother was painful to listen to. Is she an adult or is she 5? Nothing about her mom's story is even realistic. No hospital keeps a woman without insurance that long. She would have been out on the streets weeks ago.
"Bad Luck is the only kind this woman has."
I would switch narrators. This one annoyed me by reading over dramatically through out the story. Her male voice just grated on my nerves. Having said that, I listen to between 3-5 audiobooks a week. A novice audiobook person probably would not even notice.
I like the hero tackling the mass murderer pointing the gun at him. Totally believable.
I wouldn't go see it.
"A VERY DUMB ENDING"
SHADES OF GREY- BUT SHADES GREY SERIES ALL HAD GREAT ENDING.
YES, BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE BROKEN UP INTO VOLUMES. THE AUTHOR IS BEING GREEDY!!!!!
IF ALL HER BOOKS ARE WRITTEN IN UNFINISHED ENDININGS, I WILL NOT BE FOLLOWING OR PURCHASING ANYMORE OF HER BOOKS. THIS IS THE FIRST AND THE LAST.
THOUGH I DID ENJOY THE STORY. IT SHOULD BE ONE CREDIT NOT THREE.
While I had read other reviews advising of a cliffhanger ending, I hadn't realized just how much of a cliffhanger it was. There is no resolution to this story, and having looked at reviews of the second book in this series it seems that the second book ends just as abruptly. To be honest, I just don't care enough about any of the characters in this book to worry about what happens next so I won't be bothering to read anymore. I did, however, enjoy Saskia Maarleveld's narration!
"Narrator makes you go to sleep."
The narrator. The voices of the different characters were hard to tell apart. She does not do male voices well. It would be better if she didn't try sounding male.
The story was pretty repetitive. She drug it out too long. It wasn't real to the world.
She really needs to work on her male voices and she also needs to add a little, not be so bland sounding.
"Story, 5 stars - Narrator, 1 star!"
I love this story but the narrator is the worst ever. I stopped listening about half way through & bought the book on Amazon & finished reading it myself. She made the voice for all the characters sound like they were really angry all the time & her voice for Rafe sound like he was a 60 year old balding fat man, when in reality he was a 31 year old extremely hot man. I recommend this book...TO READ, but skip the audio. I hope for the rest of the books in this series they get a different narrator.
Boy the story is awesome but the narrator is a mess how can a 28 year old should like a grandfather just bad really bad!!!
"There are better books to spend a credit on"
I think this book had potential, it needed a stronger and less predictable story line.
Saskia had a nice tone, I am not sure she did the Raf's character any justice.
