Publisher's Summary

This stunning debut novel from Australian author Lucy Christopher generated considerable buzz for its nonstop suspense and breathtaking imagery. Sixteen-year-old Gemma is on a layover at Bangkok Airport, headed to Vietnam with her parents. Then the vaguely familiar Ty drugs Gemma’s drink and steals her away. Her head swirling in confusion, Gemma soon finds herself fighting to survive in the unforgiving Outback.

Incredible

Listening to this was an eye opener.
I felt a strong connection with Gemma, I haven’t been kidnapped but I have been in a relationship that at some points felt like I was a captive.
It really makes you think and feel what she would have felt.
I also feel for Ty as odd as that is to say.
He had a tough up bringing not to excuse his choices but it’s a hard life for all.

Greatly read and narrated as well

Narrator is good, but doesn't match the characters

The narrator's breezy voice and casual inflections don't suit the personalities of the characters or the tone of the story. It made it hard to listen without becoming distracted with the vocal/personality clash, and I took too many breaks before giving up. I'm going to buy the hardcover copy, instead

There are pauses for chapter breaks where there are no new chapters, and there is also a long pause for dialogue interjection when it should be a much shorter pause. But the narrator's Australian accent isn't too bad (said from an Australian).

Struggled to Finish

Started off good, then struggled to finish, not very many exciting moments just dragged on.

Romanticizing kidnapping

This story just feels very wrong to listen to, the description of the beauty of Aus is wonderful but the story is very inappropriate.
