Reformed assassin Cristan Rojas just wants to raise his daughter in peace. But after twelve years on the run, he learns that even the quiet little town of Westbury, Pennsylvania, has many hidden dangers. Although he can't shake the feeling he's under surveillance, Cristan's attraction to Sarah Mitchell continues to grow, as do his concerns that his secret past could jeopardize anyone who gets too close to him.
Sarah is ready to start her life over with her children, a new job, and a budding romance. Her newfound happiness is threatened when her ex-husband becomes increasingly violent - and she soon learns her ex isn't the only person stalking her.
Cristan fears someone from his past has arrived in town, someone far worse than a jealous ex. Someone who may be responsible for a brutal - and unsolved - murder a dozen years ago. To protect Sarah and his daughter, he must shine a light into the darkest recesses of his nightmarish past.

"Excellent action/suspense novel!"
Like all Melinda Leigh novels there is also a shade of romance, but the action and suspense really make the novel worthwhile.
She Can Kill is the sixth and latest release in Melinda Leigh's fantastic She Can series. I loved all the previous books and couldn't put this one down either. I actually had to add the audio book version so I could continue with the story when I didn't have time to sit down to read.
She Can Kill is Cristan's and Sarah's story, who first appeared in book 2 She Can Tell, but each book works fine as a stand alone, as the plot focuses on one particular couple.
Cristan has been trying to escape his violent past ever since his wife and her arms dealing family were killed twelve years ago and he escaped with their young daughter. His daughter is babysitting for Sarah who has also fled from violence in the form of her abusive ex-husband Troy who is still creating all sorts of problems for her.
The suspense really builds up when Cristan's past catches up with him and Sarah's ex-husband turns more than a little unstable.
I love how the characters from the previous books, especially Mike and Sean, are included in the plot and this great family-and-friends-in-a-small-town atmosphere is created. As the tension was building up towards the final confrontation, I never would have predicted the twists Melinda Leigh threw in. Very well written and highly recommended for any romantic suspense readers. I sincerely hope there will be more of this series in the future.
The narration was excellent again with distinct voices, good pacing and intonation. Just pure pleasure to listen to.
"She can write!!! Another win!!"
I like Melinda Leigh because she always manages to entertain me. This story is no exception. You have the story of Cristan and Sarah. Cristan has fled to Pennsylvania after a cartel hit which leaves him fearing for his daughter's safety. Sarah has an ex husband who is abusive and she is trying to protect her two young daughters. They are drawn together and find love despite an unexpected threat from Cristan's past and Sarah's ex. This story was a little predictable to me which is why I gave it four stars. I do recommend for a sale or a credit.
Another great story! it is a very well blended series, each tale flows together in such a seamless way, yet stands alone. You don't feel like you have missed anything. Each tale leaves you wanting more! I loved the characters, the reader did an excellent job
Excellent series from first to last. Recommended reading them all. Will look into more books by Melinda Leigh.
"where is book 7"
this is a series that keeps you curious about what will happen next in the current book your reading and the next book. I'm lost now unless book 7 is released.I know this author has other books so I'm going to read them.Melinda Leigh is a fabulous author.
Drew me in immediately! Loved the story, characters, twists ... All of it! Found a new series and author!
"Good story but the narrator...."
The author did a good job with introducing and developing the story but the narrator kept pronouncing the main character's name Christian as christeeeun and this about drove me crazy! I believe the author could have developed the romance part of this book better...it seemed rushed and a little impersonal.
"Better accents by computer generated voice"
this story consisted of a big action scene comma fast forward of a dozen years, then more than 100 pages of pure setting. Absolutely nothing new happens after the characters are introduced except things that simply reintroduce them. A&A, the suspenseful outcome is a parrot from the very beginning. If anything surprised listener a comma here she must not have been paying much attention.
"Excellent romantic suspense with unexpected twists"
This is an excellent romantic suspense, with a romance that is surprisingly strong even though the couple never actually act upon their feelings for much of the book.
The h is newly divorced from her abusive husband, and is struggling to cope with manipulative harassment from her ex, who has visitation rights with their children, and is becoming increasingly aggressive.
The H was a former South American, street wise, slum dwelling street kid, who was given a home, protection and criminal employment by the head of prominent Argentinean crime family. He later marries the boss’s daughter who is also an active member of the family organisation. His own daughter’s birth 14 years ago resulted in something of an epiphany regarding his violent way of life, and when his wife and her family were slaughtered by a rival gang, he “disappeared” with his daughter to start a new, honest, life in the US. He now lives as a typical single dad coping with a young teenager, albeit in a high security, heavily armed house, with emergency escape procedures always prepared. To avoid detection he and his daughter have moved constantly from city to city, but his daughter is anxious to put down roots, make friends and stay in one location.
The H and h are mutually attracted but both determined not to act upon this because of their respective personal situations. When the H’s violent past finally catches up with him, (something he was always prepared for) he initially mistakes the clues as the actions of h’s violent ex-husband. Meanwhile the h’s attempts to get her life on track are disrupted by her violent ex who is getting more and more unpredictable.
This book is actually part of a series, and some characters from the earlier book feature, however it can easily be read as a stand alone. My only mild criticism is that it suffers from that typical romantic-suspense error of sex scenes at inappropriate times: The H and h finally get together a few hours after her violent ex tried to murder her. However I do have to admit it was well written and her emotional state at the time was dealt with as part of the scenario.
The ending of this book was brilliant. It tied up all the loose ends but contained several very unexpected twists that I did not see coming. A great read, highly recommended.
