Publisher's Summary

#1 New York Times best-selling author Danielle Steel delivers one of her strongest books to date with this trans-generational narrative that draws inspiration from her own family history. Opening on the cusp of World War II and following an aristocratic German family who seeks refuge in America-with their magnificent Lipizzaner horses-this rich historical novel speaks to the transformative power of love and family.

Late 1930's Germany: Best friends Alex von Hemmerle and Nicolas von Bingen, titled childhood friends with neighboring estates, are witnessing the rise of Nazism when Nick's father reveals the long-buried secret of his son's partial Jewish ancestry. Warned by highly placed friends to flee, the only treasures Nick and his sons can take are two dazzling Lipizzaner horses, gifts from Alex. These powerful and majestic creatures become their ticket to a new life waiting across the ocean-one in which a job has been promised to Nick with the famous Ringling Brothers Circus. While Alex and his daughter face escalating danger in war torn Europe, Nick struggles to adjust to life in the circus…until a graceful young high wire walker manages to steal his heart.

Spanning multiple generations and continents, this is a rich, involving story of transformation, perseverance, fate, love, and loss, tied together by two families who were never meant to stay apart and the magnificent stallion that will link them forever.

Danielle Steel always grabs my attention in her books. It was exciting to listen to one of her books. The storyline was great and varied. I enjoyed the characters in the story and their experiences throughout the book. Was narrated brilliantly.

    "Very enjoyable!"

This purchase was totally worth it. It was pretty typical DS read but it had some very interesting historic references that furthered the story so well. The narrator was very good and I was sad to hear it end. Some parts were predictable but that's what is comfortable about DS books. I would totally buy this again.

    Story
    "Tedium at its most extreme!"

My first and last Danielle Steel book. I was lured by the fact that it was on sale and because it had tons of 4 and 5 star reviews. I must have missed something. Every point in the story was rehashed again and again in boring, infinitesimal detail as if the listener hadn't the wit to grasp the meaning unless they were beaten over the head with it. The narrator was an American, though the main characters were all German, and he brought nothing whatsoever to the story. I made myself finish it but wish I hadn't.

    Story
"An Unfortunate, Boring Waste of Time"

If you enjoy meaningful plot lines and engaging characters, this book is not for you. I repeat, move along.

If you are looking for a plodding storyline and stale characters who never quite capture your interest... Well then Pegasus is the book for you.

Despite being the type of person who cries during Subaru commercials, I never quite connected the emotion that I was being told to feel in the writing. I mean seriously, it was like reading a Dick and Jane book except without any of the interesting plot twists. All tell and no show.

I expected to experience fear, joy, misery, and enduring hope alongside these characters who so wearily made their way through a world broken by WWII, but they were all so profoundly under-developed and predictable that I only felt weary that I was still wasting my time. For the first 1/2 of the book I honestly thought DS was still setting the scene upon which her story would take place, not even realizing it had already begun.

I can't speak to her other books, but with Pegasus as my guide I would recommend against this book and author.

    "BRAVO!!!!!!"

This might be my very favorite Danielle Steel book! Perfect for any horse lover, would make a GREAT movie too. Loved the horses, characters, history and old fashioned romance. This is a book worth reading over and over! The narrator did an excellent job too, I'll be looking for more of his audible book narrations. Thank you for writing this wonderful gift!
