Publisher's Summary

The best-selling author of My Sister's Keeper and The Tenth Circle, Jodi Picoult pens her most riveting book yet, with a startling and poignant story about the devastating aftermath of a small-town tragedy.

Sterling is an ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens - until the day its complacency is shattered by an act of violence. Josie Cormier, the teenage daughter of the judge sitting on the case, should be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened before her very own eyes - or can she? As the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show, destroying the closest of friendships and families.

This is my favorite book of hers so far. The way the story was written in unbelievable. I love how she wrote in all the views of the people involved in the school shooting. I was so amazed by the twist that came later on towards the end. This is defiantly a good book for all families to read, as it covers a lot of important topics.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite was Lacey, and I also felt the most sorry for her. Lacey was the strongest, most honest character in the story - and she never gave up on her son.

    Any additional comments?

I liked seeing the different angles of this tragic story. Maybe I am just too old, but I don't ever remember children being this mean to each other! It seemed over the top cruel. The love story was a cute parallel, although I could see it coming a mile away! The big "twist" confused me though - because in my opinion it didn't really impact the main course of the story. What happened in Peter's case would remain the same, so I am not really sure why it was so dramatic. Overall though, I love Jodi Picoult - this wasn't her best, but was still a good read!

"One great book, though sad ..."

One of the best books I've listened to in a long time. It makes you think. We've all known someone who's been bullied and this is a very troubling thing for a child. I took my son out of that situation by enrolling him to karate classes, which built his confidence and intimidated his bully... worked like a charm. But how long did it take before I realized he was being bullied was the scary part.

"do you like similes and metaphors?"
What would have made Nineteen Minutes better?

there are some beautiful similes and metaphors in this that book create some deep and thoughtful imagery in the mind of the reader. There are a lot though, and after a while of reading I began to anticipate them and this took me away from the story.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jodi Picoult again?

    no, probably not.

    "thought provoking"

Worth your time to listen to this story. I nearly rejected the book early on as it was a bit slow and confusing initially setting the scene and introducing the characters. However, once set it had a thought provoking storyline.

    "thought provoking, intelligently written twisted"

The Americanisms annoyed me at first especially the overuse of the word "sucked" however this and the. narrator's American accent faded due to her compelling storytelling and twisted plot lines. An excellent read definitely reading more Jodi Picoult. Ace

Jodi does write book that give you an all perspective of the characters in the book.
Narration was OK sometimes I felt there could have been a bit more passion in her voice
