Romantic novel of the year 2010.
When the abandoned strays from a local dogs' home are matched with brand new owners, it turns out it might not be just the dogs who need rescuing.
Rachel's aunt has left her a house, a border collie and, despite Rachel knowing nothing about dogs, a crowded kennel. But since her life has collapsed, she's not sure she can deal with any more lost souls.
Zoe's ex-husband has given their children a puppy. The kids are in love, but she's the one stuck training Toffee the impossible Labrador. She's nearly at the end of her tether - until Toffee leads her to a handsome doctor....
Meanwhile Natalie and Johnny's marriage hasn't been easy since they started trying for a baby. But is a fridge-raiding, sofa-stealing Basset hound like Bertie really the child substitute they're looking for?
As the new owners' paths cross on the town's dog-walking circuits, their lives become interwoven. And they - and their dogs - learn some important lessons about loyalty, companionship and unconditional love....

The story of a 39 yo Rachel who is just getting over being heart broken. She inherits her aunts lost dog kennel and house.
This is not just about her but about the women in this little town and also about her aunt and her parents.
The book is written beautifully and I was able to relate some of her story to my own life experience.
It had me laughing and also in tears.
If you love animals especially dogs and a bit of romance, then your going to love this book.
Heartwarming. I was hooked right away. You really feel like you know the characters, both humans and dogs.
"I didn't want it to finish"
I loved this Audio book it was well read and a pleasure to listen to. A real country persons listen to, heart warming story
Thought this was a lovely story, narrator was perfect, nice relaxing easy read. Hoping to read more from this author.
"Simple easy non threatening, lovely heartwarming story"
I would recommend this book to females, especially those who loved dogs and those who have been stuck as a mistress thinking they were special.
The character I liked best was Megan forthright and yet intuitive, the second character I liked was Toffee followed close by Bertie just for being real dogs!
I loved this story it was easy to listen but totally absorbing. Lucy Dillon brilliantly created the image of each character and intertwined each story line without losing the individual characters
Very easy read. enjoyed every moment, but again I feel like the end was quite sudden and rushed. there was no closure for the other characters we fall in love with along the way.
"Perfect gentle read for dogs lovers and romantics "
I like the narrator, she brings it to life.
the book is easy listening, the characters pleasant too.
A nice rural setting . Plenty of doggy references for those of us who love our pets .
Kept me happy when fitting a kitchen.
"For Dog lovers Everywhere!"
Megan's she seemed to have her finger on the pulse of what was going on dishing out loads of dog related advice. Brilliant
I have loved them all
Both I loved the descriptions of the dogs they came to life for me especially Bertie. It reminded me of our own rescue dog in the early days
The books are light hearted and cheery and brilliant to listen to while walking the dogs or travelling in the car. Have listened to them all now and wish there were a few more Longhampton tales to brighten the days.
