From the New York Times, USA Today & Wall Street Journal best-selling Author…
A USA Today best-selling Novel…
The pain was unbearable, but I had to keep moving. I had to keep running, because if I didn't, he'd find me. I looked behind me as I ran through the streets; scared, alone, and in the dark as the mist of rain hit my face. There was no time to think, and there was no time to stop. My shoes were soaked as they sloshed through the puddles of the dimly lit streets.
My name is Rory Sinclair, and the night I was violently attacked was the night that changed my life forever. One man, a man named Ian Braxton, made it his mission to heal me, to save me, and to show me a world that previously had been only a dream to me.
Ian Braxton is far from perfect. He's a self-absorbed, demeaning, arrogant, and womanizing millionaire. He makes it so easy to hate him, but so very hard to resist him. We're from opposite sides of the spectrum. He comes from money and I come from poverty. When our worlds collide, his struggles become mine, and mine become his, leaving us with one question:
How much would you give up to be with someone who was meant to be yours?

Story very slow and uneventful. Characters have no depth, very superficial, undeveloped and not at all likeable. It appears that the author borrows images and character traits from "Fifty Shades" and "Pretty Woman" but doesn't take them anywhere. It is but a sketch of a story.
It is obvious I love audible & I am addicted to it too!!
This is Book 1 if anyone is questioning. Because "When I Lie with You: A Millionaire's Love" is Book 2...
At first like many of my other purchases I wasn't sure if I will ending up liking the story. But I honestly love the story. It was a little different from other love story. I am glad they have Book 2 & if I didn't went on looking at the author I would have never known there was another book.
For the narrator it was great. I was instantly hook because like other narrator you couldn't differentiate the characters. There was one error when I listen to as the narrator might have come too close to the mic...but overall, i love it!!
Can't wait to start listening to book 2...right after i re-listen to his book again. =D
"Poorly written fifty shades of grey wannabe"
Nothing, this book is hard to listen to it is so poorly written.
The story tries to mimic 50 shades of grey but is lacking in all aspects and just falls short.
Narrators voice was not enjoyable.
I would tell the author to start fresh and not imitate someone else's story line.
Better story.. Better character development.
Everything is disappointing. The beginning is too far fetched. He saves her and all the sudden they have a love/hate relationship and she is living in his house spending his money? The dialogue is I want you/stay away from me/I love you . It is too much back and forth with no reason for it. Rory says she is trying to save her twin brother but never goes looking for him? The twin brother is schizophrenic but sounds like a little child?
Narration wasn't bad but the writing and story were so bad it ruined the entire thing.
Absolutely none. Couldn't finish it.
Don't waste a credit or any money on this story it is a poorly written bipolar soap opera.
I would try another book by this author because I try 2 books before I decide an author is just not for me.
This book was so disappointing because it has great reviews on Amazon. I don’t see what the other readers got out of this story. It’s clear the author is riding the wave of Fifty Shades of Gray. That is not too bad because we all get inspiration from something. My problem is the book includes aspects of Fifty Shades of Gray unnecessarily, it adds nothing to the plot. What is the point of mentioning he has a sex room when it wasn’t used in the story, to point out that Rory is so special he won’t take her there? There are other ways to show that to the reader without adding the sex room. In addition the story just starts bad. She gets stabbed and instead of taking her to the hospital he takes her home, where in the world do people do that? On top of that Rory is so annoying but she’s much like many women which was the only believable part of the story. One of the reason men lie to women is because women can’t deal with the truth. Ian was very up front with Rory about his views on relationships but could she handle that, NO! Her mission was to change him and this story only drives home the myth that women have, you can change any man and make him fall in love with you. This book was just bad all around.
When she stood up to Ian's father.
The main character Rory
"I JUST LOVE SANDI LYNN'S BOOKS"
Yes, I'll admit Ian's a sexy, handsome and drool worthy millionaire but he's also a womanising douche-bag who's arrogant, demanding and all Alpha so it's kinda hard to like him at first. But, as time went on, his feelings grew for poor Rory who's had a lot of hardship in her life and a mentally challenged twin to look after but that has just made her stronger. Thankfully, she didn't take Ian's bullsh*t and as a result of this he became much more likeable as his character did a 180 degree turn and so could Rory actually be 'the one' to finally catch this rich Playboy's heart..... and will she then be able to keep him.
Total implausible plot..... but so what this is romantic FICTION and I love it. Right from the start it captured me, held my attention and I was desperate to find out if they were going to get their much deserved HEA. But, as there's a book 2 I doubt whether things are going to run smoothly for long. Instant chemistry, sizzling sex and dirty talk, angst, a cast of likeable (and a couple of nasty) secondary individuals and great character development makes this a very enjoyable and entertaining listen.
Told from Rory's POV and the narrator was great at both the female (and perhaps more importantly) the male voices.
Worth a credit? Rory is definitely a damsel in distress but will Ian turn out to be her knight in shining armour and save her or perhaps it will be the other way round? Only time and the second book will reveal the answers to that question.... so this is actually a 2 credit listen and I'm happily off to listen to book 2 knowing that this was a credit well spent and hoping book 2 won't disappoint.
I didn't believe they fell in love. Sure Rory did but Ian treated her horribly throughout the entire book until the last 2 chapters
"Not my favorite"
Even though I will probably listen to the next book, I have to say I really dislike the narrator. It is amazing how they can make or break a book for me. She is really making it hard for me to continue this series. I thought the character development was very weak. Rory went from stabbed to madly in love in a nanosecond and Ian just let an unknown girl move in and stay?? I didn't like either of them for quite awhile. However I tend to get invested in characters so I guess I will see where this leads. I really liked the forever series-- this one- not so much.
"Simplistic, one dimensional, unbelievable"
Seriously, I can't imagine who would enjoy this book. Perhaps someone using heavy power tools who wants to be confident they haven't missed anything important when the noise prevents them from hearing the narration?
I would approach this author's work with a great deal of skepticism.
The narrator can't do much if the writing is dreadful. It may have been better if she refused the job but perhaps she needed the money.
Uhmmm, the beginning? The end? everything in between? I skipped a large part of the book.
The characters are unbelievable, the dialogue is simplistic, there is no tension, the plot is....well...childish.
"I thought this story was amazing"
I thought this story was amazing, harsh in some parts, but I loved that she gave it back to Ian as much as he fave it to her.
Sandi Lynn sure knows how to make you fall in love with all the characters in her books! Ian and Rory had remarkable chemistry and spark.
Rory is a girl who's life has been full of pain and suffering. She was left to care for herself and her mentally ill twin brother after her mother died when she was just a child.
Ian is a handsome millionaire who doesn't do love or relationships. He is with a different woman almost every night.
Ian saves Rory after finding her stabbed and bleeding on the street. He takes care of her and wants to basically be friends with benefits. Rory finds herself falling in love with him even as he continually lets her know he doesn't do relationships. However, his actions don't always match his words. He's so kind one moment and then pushes her away the next.
Rory can't take the heartbreak and leaves. Will her leaving make Ian see what he is missing, or will he continue to deny his feelings?
"Book one and it's a doozy!"
Wow Sandi has done it again. Lie Next To Me is Ian and Rory's story. It's very different to the Forever Black series, it's more raw, your emotions go crazy and you're sucked into the story right from the beginning, I savoured every word.
Ian Braxton is arrogant, sexy, rich, powerful and at times frustrating. He saves Aurora aka Rory, he takes her home to care for her. You soon see what kind of person he is deep down, he might be closed off emotionally but you see how caring and gentle he can be. I started to wonder why he would take a stranger into his home and care for her so deeply when he didn't know a thing about her.
Rory's life was anything but easy, she has so much to deal with but remains strong and tries her best under the circumstances. After her attack she wouldn't tell Ian who'd done it, and what haunts her dreams. Everyone needs someone right? Ian is the one person she wants to rely on and get close to, however that can't happen in his eyes.
They have a hard battle ahead of them in more ways than one. Can two people from such different lives let each other in and make each other whole?
A beautifully written story with a roller coaster ride of emotion. I can't wait to read the next book.
delightful read.Have read this book 3 times and it just gets better and better amazing.it has everything in a romance book this will not disappoint you.
