An achingly funny story about how to be your own hero when life pulls the rug out from under your feet. From the author of the bestselling You had me at Hello.
Delia Moss isn't quite sure where she went wrong. When she proposed and discovered her boyfriend was sleeping with someone else - she thought it was her fault. When she realised life would never be the same again - she thought it was her fault. And when he wanted her back like nothing had changed - Delia started to wonder if perhaps she was not to blame…
From Newcastle to London and back again, with dodgy jobs, eccentric bosses and annoyingly handsome journalists thrown in, Delia must find out where her old self went - and if she can ever get her back.

I am a total audiobook addict! I travel quite a bit for work and listen to them while I drive. Always searching for a good author to follow
Yes and I have. This was a great story and my friends loved the sound of the characters
She is lovely to listen to and does great accents.
Yes it did but it was too long for that. I struggled to stop listening though
This is a great book and has lots to keep you interested! I have listened to Julia Barrie a few times and her narration really makes this book a pleasure.
I started listening to this and foolishly did not pay attention to it properly! Thought I was not that into it but tried to give it a fair hearing. Clearly it has stored awake the crazy in my unconsciousness and forced the persistence button. And I am so pleased it did. Love the humour the characters, the metaphors. I alway love Mhairis books they lead you in have characters you root for but unfortunately they are so good your kinda left feeling bereft that your time with you new found friend is over. Cannot wait for the next book, I have loved all of your books. One criticism is you just do not write fast enough for my liking!
The reader of the audio book was a wonderful narrator who made you feel a captured part of the story. The writer was fun witty and captivating. I loved this book as much as I loved all other books by this author.
"Best Mhairi McFarlane book so far"
There were some genuinely tense moments of intrigue in this book, as well as utter heartbreak and uplifting romance. I loved it and can't wait for the next!
The narrator was great, very good accents.
"Okay but got annoying at the end"
This book started out okay, but it got increasingly annoying towards the end. Delia really began to grate on me after a while. The woman that was supposed to have grown stronger and more dependent was willing to take back her lying, cheating piece of scum ex at the drop of a hat, which just didn't sit right. It was still good, and there were plenty of bits that made me chuckle, but it wasn't fantastic. Luckily I got it while on a daily deal so it was cheap.
"Misfortune of a Geordie Reviewer"
I hope Julia Barrie isn't actually a Geordie, because I am a lifelong Newcastle dweller and some of the accenting in this makes me cringe. And the story itself, with its strange mix of obvious landmarks, obscure places and fictions is as jarring as the bizarre accents.
Aside from that, I very much enjoyed the story itself. Right up to the very end. I'm not saying (spoiler free) that Delia didn't deserve it, but it was just a little bit too perfect. A little too contrived. And it was a bit disappointing when I thought the rest of the narrative had very cleverly walked the line between the bizarro slightly out there antics and the very real emotional journey of Delia.
All in all Delia and her supporting characters make for a wonderfully quirky and entertaining story that engages, right up until the climax.
"5 Stars, loved it!"
I seldom review but felt bothered enough to say this was a really good listen. Kept having to check how much time was left to resolve the plot! The second book by this author I have enjoyed and have just discovered there is a third to enjoy. Will be my very next purchase.
"You had me, then you lost me"
I enjoyed 'You Had Me at Hello" so had high hopes for this later book from Mhairi McFarlane. On the whole my expectations were met. This is light, humorous and when pathos is needed, she writes emotional trauma very well. Despite a natural kneejerk reaction, it is possible to identify with Delia’s indecision about whether or not to forgive her unfaithful boyfriend and her constant agonising about the forensic details of his affair are all too human and realistic. The sub plot about her adventures in London are silly but fun and like many books in this genre, things are tied up a little too neatly to reflect real life - but if you want a diversion, this delivers well.
Julie Barrie is a good narrator but I did think Delia sounded very like the comedian, Sarah Millican. I like her very much, but somehow I couldn't get her image out of my head, which was a bit like having an annoying earworm when trying to listen to another piece of music.
Never wanted it to end beautifully written and narrated Just bought 3 more titles by the author
