Publisher's Summary

King Grim Vasteri is the strongest and most feared warrior in the Tornian Empire. He is the King of Luda, blood brother to the Emperor, and his line will die with him. He will have no offspring for no female would join with him for once he was scarred he was considered "unfit". The Tornian Empire has been dying ever since the great infection caused the birth of females to become a rarity. Since then they have been searching the known universes for compatible females. The Emperor's discovery of a compatible female on a slave ship changed that. He'd ordered Grim to find his Empress's home world so more "unprotected" females could be obtained, knowing Grim would never be allowed to Join with one.

Lisa Miller is a widowed mother of two little girls, Carly and Miki. Her husband died just a year ago, after a long battle with cancer and she misses him immensely. Friends want her to start dating again but in her heart, she knows there isn't a man on the planet she could love like her Mark. Who could love their girls like their own. Therefore, she'll stay alone.

When Lisa is discovered "unprotected" at her husband's grave, she wakes on an alien ship heading for an alien world. Refusing to accept this she confronts the large males, demanding she be returned to her children. Seeing his chance to have a female, Grim agrees to accept and protect her offspring, if she agrees to Join with him and only him. Realizing this is the only way she can retrieve her children Lisa agrees, and the Tornian Empire changes forever.

His chance!

Good narration. The love story of a Human Female with a Alien Male of two very different cultures is very entertaining. Lisa is outspoken which does not go over well.

good storyline

first time listen for Me and this author and it took me awhile to finally download due to mixed reviews. there were sound effects that was a bit suprising but worked in with the plotline. I have only heard dual narration ....as in male voice when male speaks and female voice when female speaks, once before and I loved it. I didn't mind Ms Jennings but Commodore left some of the narrative flat, minus tone inflections.
The dialogue was simple, safe and good natured. the sex scenes were a tad on the steamy side, which pushed it to an adult theme. there was a lot of easy acceptances by the kidnapped women which I guess you just had to roll with as it is an alien sci fi . and i found it a bit eye rolling when the story cut straight to the chase and 1. accepted as quick as you please...no explanation or introspective thought, to take on the heroine and 2. fell in love ASAP!.
storyline was a suprise, it was quite complex and clever.
I'm not sure if I want to continue though, mainly due to the male narrator even though there are more voices involved.

Great!

It would be much better for different voice actors for different people, however I do love the sound affects.

The story is true but the audiobook is a mixed bag

Would you listen to Grim again? Why?

I would listen to Grim again because M.K. Eidem's novel is engaging. I'd also listen to it again just to hear Commodore James' raspy Grim impersonation.

What did you like best about this story?

Although Grim and Lisa's relationship progressed really quickly early on, the author was able to grow their understanding of each other through their interactions and misunderstandings.

Have you listened to any of Commodore James and Laura Jennings ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I've never listened to either Commodore James or Laura Jennings' other performances. Commodore James has a really lovely cadence to his narration that feels very un-rushed. He also does the Grim and Wray voices very well but unfortunately for every other male character sounds whiny or as though they have either a speech impediment or a learning disability. Laura Jennings is a talent but her casting was wrong for Lisa's character since her voice has a shaky quality that was really distracting and sounded really elderly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would listen to it all in one setting for the narration and Grim's parts alone.

Any additional comments?

Honestly when I first heard Lisa, I thought she was an old woman. In the novel, Lisa is only 24 years old but Laura Jennings makes her sound like an 80 year old woman. A complete turn off.

Book 2 not book 1

Thoroughly enjoyed this book though please listen to Wray first.

I hope Rebecca and Callan get a story.

The narrators did a good job. There were sound effects in this book but that didn't bother me.

My Favourite

Love this book, the story makes you feel so sorry for the hero and then so pleased.

Great beginning to a series

I have listened to this book several times and enjoy it over and over. I like the theme behind the story. A lot of effort has been put in to the production and it makes the book come alive. I like listening to dual voices. Well worth the cost.
