Honestly I don't think I've ever disliked anyone as much as Jill. She was awful.
"Not as good as the first book in the series"
The characters just were not engaging and it did not hold my attention very well.
A frustrating read. Story was set up as strong characters yet some choices did not represent this. Found it annoying a lot of the time. Just wanted it to end. Jill in her decision making processes felt wrong for the strong character she was set up to portray. Her sister Meredith was too controlling and annoying. Ended up not liking the characters.
"Talk about self-absorbed"
This novel is written for readers younger than me. Perhaps they will identify with the lead character who is one of the most self-absorbed prima donas in the world. It's all about her and every conclusion she jumps to is right and don't try to convince her otherwise. She is not a likable person.
The poor guy who has loved her forever takes the abuse and accusations heaped upon him.
The novel is full of shallow characters who have more drama in their lives than 100 people. The plot is weak. The narrator did a good job with what she had to work with.
"No suspense or surprise."
The reader of this book did a marvelous job.
I felt that out times this book was a little lacking in action. The scenes were very predictable which left me very disappointed. I could figure out what was going to happen next there was no surprise or suspense on my part. I liked the characters I just wish that their plots were more desirable. The setting of the book was also very nice I like that from the first book in the series.
"A tedious read"
I enjoyed Nora Roberts Land, the first book in the series. By the time I finished this one I was thinking that Jill and Brian deserved each other because no one else would want them. Heaven help the child of these two insecure dopes. I much prefer stronger more self-assured and well developed characters.
"Annoying YA Characters"
I did not realize when I purchased French Roast that Jill & Brian were twenty six with the emotional maturity of sixteen year olds.
Since Ava Miles is obviously talented, I was disappointed with the constant juvenile drama, whining, stupid choices, and unrealistic expectations.
"Loved it and can't wait for the next book."
loved the story it draws you in and makes you want to stay there. I was sad when it was over.
"My kind of brew!"
I loved the second book in this series. It was as engrossing and entertaining as the first book. Of course we now have to wait for Jill and Brian's baby, and to find out what they are having. This really was just the beginning for them. Can't wait to see how the restaurant opening and more pans out for them in future novels.
Thank you Ava Miles for a wonderful story!
"Great story! A lot of drama!"
Loved book 2! I'm not a literary critic, but I did enjoy the book. Lots of ups and downs in the emotions of the characters which made it more realistic. I'd recommend it. :)
