Lieutenant Alexander Colton and February Owens were high-school sweethearts. Everyone in their small town knew from the moment they met they were meant for each other. But something happened, and Feb broke Colt's heart; then she turned wild, and tragedy struck. Colt meted out revenge against the man who brought Feb low, but even though Colt risked it all for her, Feb turned her back on him and left town.
Fifteen years later Feb comes back to help run the family bar. But there's so much water under the bridge separating her and Colt, everyone knows they'll never get back together--until someone starts hacking up people in Feb's life. Colt is still Colt, and Feb is still Feb, so the town watches as Colt goes all out to find the murderer while trying to keep Feb safe. As the bodies pile up, the feds move in, and a twisting, turning story unravels, exposing a very sick man who has claimed numerous victims. Along the way Feb and Colt battle their enduring attraction and the beautiful but lost history that weaves them together.

Gritty real characters, overwhelming obstacles, sadness and humor and a puzzle that becomes more puzzling. Just when you think you know the plot, there's a new element and the piece doesn't quite fit your prediction.
"Narrator and Editing were terrible"
This could have been a 5 star rating for me had it not been for the narrator and editing of the audiobook. I listened to the audiobook mostly via bluetooth in my car, and the editing and gaps between the narrator speaking was extremely distracting. The narrator herself was very monotone and I had trouble following along with who was speaking at any given point in the book.
The book itself was great. I loved the characters, even though February drove me a little crazy at first. I enjoyed the suspense and the developing story around the events throughout the book. The secondary characters were exceptional, which I have come to expect from a Kristen Ashley story. I highly recommend the book, just maybe not the audible version.
"The narrator is NOT bad!!"
I'm extremely picky about narrations & feel as though a poor narrator will ruin an audio book (fsog). I also feel like an excellent performance brings an audiobook to life.
No, this wasn't a perfect narration. There are numerous loud swallow sounds (which kind of gross me out & I avoided by listening through an aux) & the actual narration got better & better as the book progressed.
Kristin Ashley never disappoints & I'm so glad I finally downloaded the book & listened to it since I skipped over it several times due to the reviews.
"Narrator was awful"
The story was good and enjoyed it as I have most all of Kristen books. However, I wouldn't recommend this as a audio book due to the narrator. I will definitely steer clear of any books with this narrator.
I will never listen to another book narratored via Liz Thompson's. Listening to the monotone and the constant swallowing was just awful!
"Love KA's books"
I buy a lot of audios so to hear this person constantly audibly swallowing , swamping spit was annoying. She was also so monotone that there was a few times I just stopped listening and went to another book.
"More Kristen Ashley!!!!"
I was a little worried about this one after reading the summary. I loved the Colorado Mountain series, and was not sure if I could get in to a story with a 20 year gap in the relationship. But as with all other KA books, she does a great job pulling you into the world that she creates and making you love the characters that she writes. This overall story is a romance with a murder/mystery backdrop. It is similar to the Colorado Mountain series and if you liked those books, this is worth the credit.
"Love the book, but not the narrator"
I am a huge Kristen Ashley fan and after having read all her books, I am now going through the books she has on Audible. I have enjoyed just about every audible version of her books albeit with lots of different narrators. However, this is the first one that I really struggled to listen to. Someone needed to edit this book! There are audible swallows, and there are long pauses between sentences especially where there really shouldn't be. It was awkward, and felt disruptive in telling the story. This series of the Burg is one of my favorite so I hope the narrators are better in the other books!
I enjoy K.A.'s book's mainly because the characters are mature. They have had life experiences and want happiness for the rest of their live. They are not 20 something living in a fantasy world.
Great story. I'm listening to several series from this author and I really like the story lines, however...... I don't know why she is so obsessed with the F word. And the female saying the man's name. Just his name. Over and over and over. Like that is super romantic or something. I don't get it. In this book the narrator pauses crazy long between sentences. Annoying. I looked down several times to see if the app had closed. I started counting. Up to 8 seconds. This is not at the end of a chapter, or even a 'subject'. It can be right in the middle of a character talking. Soooo. Odd.
"THIS DESERVES 50 STARS!!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!!!"
ALL OF IT!!! ENOUGH SAID!!! LOL
February, she was strong, sexy and just a pleasure....I also liked Colt...but he was a bit more dominant than I like my men...but he was a softy too...so I secretly really adore him too! lol
I thought she was fantastic..I dont know why people said she was a bad narrator..she gave a great performance! Her characters were believable, she brought the book to life!! I listen to a TON of boOks and I would listen to her again ANYTIME!!! 10 Stars for Liz!!! :)
Both...I really tried not to ugly cry...but it happened...lol
This was a book club listen for me, and I am totally blown away!! This is a super long book, and I DID not want it to end...I kept checking the time, and would be like oh good there is 9hrs left...lol Feb and Colt were meant to be, and I am so glad they found their way back to each other! I liked how this story basically unfolded and showed how they were torn apart on purpose and as fate has a way of working out they were drawn back together...Destiny and Fate will always find a way...not to mention true love! This is much more than a romance story though, it is a thriller mystery, and I was on the edge of my seat, and did not want to put it down! It also had a lot of sexy sexy hot hot scenes that will keep any romance reader coming back for more!! I tried not to cry...but I did end up sobbing a bit...lol I LOVED IT!! And I will continue the series!!!
nice story of lost love found again with obsession mixed in. the characters seemed really and the reader did a great job with the voices. only problem was how many times they said each other's name., Colt, Feb, but Colt, Feb, Colt, Feb, COLT, FEB!!
The story of some horrific murders was totally dismissed in favour of hero worshipping the main characters continuously, quite bizarre.
The insulting terminology in relation to the male/female relationship was unbelievably misogynistic, the frequent references to women as mere sex objects was toe curling.
Start from scratch!
Not that I can think of.
Avoid like the plague
"It's a good book"
Enjoyable, easy listen - you know where it's going but I'm not looking for something ingenious from my audiobooking want help switching my brain off rather than on!
"The perfect audiobook"
I've previously read this on ebook but narration enhanced this wonderful story even more. The narrator was excellent and portrayed emotion, feeling, sarcasm so well.
"Are we still in the 1970s?"
The storyline had promise but the focus on the two main characters and their relationship is utter rubbish. Way too much of the book is describing their 'perfect' qualities written in such an unbelievable sexist way I actually had to look up to see if Kristen Ashley was in fact a man whose hay day was in the 1970s. Overuse of certain phrases and immature grammar made this book painful to listen to.
"Another Kristen Ashley series to love"
Yes, because all Kristen Ashely books are well worth reading or listening to
If I had the time I would have most definitely listened to this is one sitting
