Publisher's Summary

Sometimes hope for the future is found in the ashes of yesterday.

Shane Galanter is a man ready to put down roots after years of searching. But is he making the right choice? Or is there a woman somewhere who even now remembers, as does he, those long-ago days, and a love that hasn't faded with time?

Lauren Gibbs, a successful international war correspondent, gave up on happily-ever-after years ago when it was ripped away from her. Since then, she's never looked back. So how come she can't put to rest the one question that haunts her: Why is life so empty?

Emily Anderson, a college freshman raised by her grandparents, is about to take her first internship as a journalist. But before she can move ahead, she discovers a love story whose tragic ending came with her birth. As a result, she is drawn to look back and search out the mother she's never met.

A young woman seeking answers to her heart's deep questions. A man and woman separated by lies and long years, yet who have never forgotten each other. With hallmark tenderness and power, Karen Kingsbury weaves a tapestry of lives, losses, love, and faith, and the miracle of resurrection.

What the Critics Say

"The latest offering from Christian publishing phenom Kingsbury spills over with her trademark sentimentality and easy prose." (Publishers Weekly)

    "Beautifully crafted"

A story that will make you cry and really think. I will save this for anyone I know with a teenagers in the home, or a teen themselves. Great thoughts on war and peace, friendship and true love.

    "Not her best"

Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorite Christian authors. I've loved all of her books, but "Even Now" didn't make the mark. I found it to be very slow moving, and the narrator was poor. All of her voices were very similar, and the young adults sounded like young children.

    "Fantastic book!"

I love Karen's books and this was no exception. She keeps you interested from the very first sentence of the epilog and holds your interest and enthusiasm till the very end.

    Story
"When Love Tries Too Hard and Does Too Much . . ."

I am a big fan of Karen Kingsbury, and Even Now is no exception . . . the narration left something to be desired . . . but I hung in there, knowing that there were morsels to be mined from it if I stayed with it . . . if this had been my first Karen Kingsbury book, I may not have had the stamina to see it through . . . having said that, I'm very glad that I did . . . two sets of overbearing, self-centered parents made the first part of the book very difficult . . . and I have certainly come up against some parents just like them, even in the church . . . but it doesn't make it right . . . two young people, in love, who made a mistake, needing grace, mercy, and love from the people who should have protected and cared for them most in the world . . . two young teenagers who had no recourse . . . this part of the story, a little implausible, the lengths which two sets of parents go to in order to separate the sweet young couple infuriates me . . . particularly Shane's parents, who seem to blame Lauren for the pregnancy and put their son's future above the baby and the couple's wishes to raise their baby together . . . the total about face in the couple's years' long friendship, watching their children grow up together, loving one another first as kids, then as young adults . . . well, it just doesn't sit well . . . but stranger things have happened, in this fallen world . . . the precious, shining light in all of this is Emily . . . the baby, raised by Lauren's parents . . . parents saddened and repentant of their mistakes with their teenage daughter, and loving and being exactly what their granddaughter needs in the absence of her mother . . . God works all things to the good of them that loves Him . . . and in His time, He reveals His plans . . . the young Lauren and Shane's promise to love one another, a promise and a love that neither of their parents believed or understood . . . comes full circle in this wonderful story . . . I am so glad that I didn't miss it . . .

"Good book of hope and second chances"

Not a huge fan of the narrator however the character I had a hard time relating to was Lauren, who ends up being a successful journalism for Time Magazine can't find her lost love. Seems pretty far fetched.

What an amazing talent God has given you Karen Kingsbury! He has definitely anointed you to get real life struggles and answers into "can't- put-down" novels. Thank you so much, and to the narator, thank you, you were perfect!
