When old money and older entitlement invade Missouri, Ruben Beeler is dispatched by the Federal Marshals Service to investigate complaints from small farmers and ranchers that a wealthy Englishman is taking over an entire county. Rube leaves his wife and their baby at home, and enters into a conflict where might is right, and Sir Merrit Treadstone is prepared to do whatever is necessary to establish the Calico Cattle Company and his new American kingdom. With Marion Daniels and Homer Poteet, Ruben faces poison, arson, and murder as he struggles to put down a British invasion and stay alive, on The Calico Trail.

Refreshing and honest
Rube is probably my favourite - he goes from an awkward "aw shucks" to a hard no-nonsense man in control of any situation. He has a gentleness that is very endearing, and a strength that is very reassuring.
Loved Lewis' deep gravelly voice and his seemingly genuine way of telling his story.
Lawmen who get the difficult jobs done efficiently but with side-splitting humour.
This author needs to produce more books.
"A western that will keep you laughing"
A good story line, but enhanced by characters the keep you laughing to the end. I really enjoyed this book. Try it, you'll like it.
"A western story with some very good humor."
I liked the story, I didn't like the accent of the guys but as the book went on I liked them very much and it was well done.
Good story and I could see it really happening.
Thank you, I was entertained and could not stop listening until it was done.

"Easy listen. Fun listen."
Loved the humorous 'southernisms'. The book galloped along with a good story holding the reins. The author did a wonderful job with the characters! Check it out, you will not be disappointed.
Hard to believe author could do such a great job with character voices. I am hooked on this whole series.
GREAT STORY, MAKE ME LAUGH AT TIMES,AND MADE ME TEAR UP AT TIMES.MOST DEFINITELY KEPT MY INTEREST. I WILL DOWNLOAD MORE BY THIS AUTHOR. JOB WELL DONE,I ENJOYED IT.
"Story enormously entertaining with great narration"
After listening to all 5 books 3 times, I am only disappointed that the author has not written many more. I've read more than 100 Louis L'Amour books and I find David R. Lewis just as enjoyable. Lewis has all the great story and action of L'Amour but with wonderful humor that brings a smile to ones face. David R. Lewis not only wrote an exciting story but is a superb narrator. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him describe exciting gun battles of good vs. evil, as well as, describing mouthwatering "artery clogging" country meals. I recommend highly. Please write more Mr. Lewis!!!
