He had done it again. Ravaged me. Burned me. Broken me. Given me air, only to leave me gasping, writhing. But then something changed. Something that terrified and excited me both. Something that utterly destroyed me. Something that made me whole again.
Our love was cursed from the start. She didn't know it but I did. All she knew was that I'd lied to her, betrayed her. Done unforgivable things. Unavoidable things. Yes, I had broken promises as surely as I had broken her heart. But, just as every war has casualties, and every lie has consequences - every bastard has his reasons.

sorry just did not like the herion. She created her own chaos. Every move she made was for selfish reasons. She only considered her own feelings and her own success. Her motives were all because she was hurt. The Hero did a lot to save her from herself. Had she just asked questions instead of lashing out the book would have moved at a better pace. The self pity got to be way over done. The end of the book didn't have an HEA feel to it. It feels incomplete. I guess the reader is suppose to understand her reasons for inflicting pain on Dante. Because she did a lot of damage to Dante that he didn't deserve. No one owed her a thing but she acts like they do..Only one part of the book i felt pity for her but that passed with the next chapter.
The book has a childish feel because of the herion's behavior. i am a huge fan of R.K. Lilley but not this book. i will continue to be a fan.. she is an auto download..
The narration was good and spot on..
"ANOTHER 5-STAR LISTEN!"
Seriously, I'm a R.K. Lilley fan for life! There's just something about these books that hits every button for me. This series was perfection--dramatic, over the top, romantic perfection. It's not a fairy tale romance though, it's gritty, very dark, and kind of twisted. The narration was on point and befitting of the characters, also the interplay and history amongst the characters and their relationships was just toxic enough that I just ate up every minute of the story. A definite repeat listen for both books in this series, and highly recommended for those love sick like me out there.
loved the whole series!
One of the best love stories.
Very good narrated books.
Love the books!!!
"THIS WAR HAD CASUALTIES.... BUT LOVE TRIUMPHED"
R. K. Lilley has done it again.... she's blown me away with an absolutely gripping and riveting story of love that's turned toxic... leading to spiteful jibes, witty yet wounding banter and years of regrets, heartache and painful memories. As the story slowly unfolds it introduces you to Scarlett and Dante who superficially hate each other and yet their history's are somehow entwined, their feelings run deep, their chemistry is combustible.... and that sometimes leads them to give in to angry sex. Their pasts are waiting to be told and their futures are waiting to be rewritten.
The chapters dart from present to past and back again giving an insight into like minded childhood friends whose natures were so similar that they formed an unbreakable bond... the world vs Scarlett and Dante. Scarlett was found in a dumpster, lived in a trailer with her alcoholic Grandmother and was dirt poor - whereas Dante comes from Old money, had a Trust Fund and his Mother's high expectations for him were constantly thrust in his face. Opposites in a lot of ways and yet there tempers and attitudes were so alike.
They go from being devoted friends to inseparable lovers with their hearts and futures so tightly entwined that they thought nothing and nobody could break them apart... but they were so naive and so very wrong. As the story flips back to the present you know Dante's broken Scarlett's heart but how and why will remain a mystery until the end. This bitter-sweet heartbreaking and tragic story that slowly unfurls tells a tale of innocence, brutal rape, murder, jealousy, shattered dreams, painful memories, blackmail, treachery, lost years, bitter regrets, soul shattering shocks, twists, drama, angst, manipulation, lies, secrets, selfless unconditional sacrifice and soul deep anguish that cuts deep. However, there's such a sweet backstory, a touching young love and an epic love story amongst the rubble of hate filled years of war, conflict and hostility.
This review is for the entire duet because after book 1 I just couldn't wait to listen to the now available second instalment of Scarlett and Dante's story which was utterly compelling, pulse-poundingly gripping, tearfully tragic, heartachingly beautiful and totally unforgettable. These two characters loved and lost but when the awful unbelievable truth was finally revealed they fought hard, against a vicious vindictive enemy, and eventually got their long awaited second chance to make things right, to forgive, to heal.... and to claim their HEA.
Worth a credit? I'm emotionally exhausted, mind f'd, overwhelmed, overjoyed and grateful to R. K. Lilley for yet another memorable and very creditworthy listen... thank you.
I feel like this is a repeat of my previous review for Breaking Him, but I absolutely loved this book. Superb writing and narration.
I had trouble connecting with the characters and never felt as if the story was complete in the end. Though I'm a fan of the author, this series wasn't for me but it was ok. The quality narration worked in its favor.
My three words would be Crazy, Sad and Redemption.
The moment that led to all of the heartbreak was so crazy, sad and unfortunate.
I liked the emotion that Sarah brought. Jason was good, a little subdued but still good.
After the back and forth of book 1 I wasn't expecting so much outside drama. That changed things a lot.
Where to start amazing !!!!!! Wow I couldn't put it down I was biting my nails so many times during this book crying laughing and even wishing I could kill some of these people wow this book is amazing. I always love her work but she outdone herself this time👌🏽👌🏽👏🏽 saying that I can't wait for the second book in the burning fire series.
"Loved the torment!"
Absolutely, horribly great! These two people were stripped bare. Funny, loving, sad, and so inhuman. What some will do at all cost to be in control.
"Okay compared to other R K Lilley Stories"
A bit too drawn out , too much back story.
No I think it ended well
