Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?
Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is not to be Tennessee's reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother's ambitions, and her father's puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.
And desperate times call for Cletus Winston.
Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he's in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So what's a maniacal mastermind to do?
Likely, the last thing you expect.
Beard Science is the third book in the Winston Brothers series, is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be heard as a standalone.

Oh my Cletus! Book 3 of the Winston Brothers series was such a delight to read! Cletus has been a favourite of mine throughout the series so I was super excited to get inside Cletus's head, finally! It's been awhile since i've read about such a special character, Cletus is full of surprises, has the driest funniest wit, quirky anecdotes and is a shrewd mastermind! He is such a complex character and even after reading his book, we don't get all the answers about Cletus, I'm hoping in the following books, more about his particular past will be revealed. I loved Jennifer's character because she took on such a transformation throughout the book.
It's wonderful having all the other Brothers & partners so intertwined in the books, it's what brings a richness and depth to the stories.
I can't boast enough about Penny's writing, it is intelligent, witty & funny, making this series a breath of fresh air for me. Really looking forward to the next book & more of Cletus and his sausage... 😀
I loved Cletus, I'm just having a hard time picturing him as I see him and his name. It also reaffirms my belief that sometimes really smart people can be so dumb. Jennifer at first appeared a bit wishy washy with no backbone and I wondered if I would come to like her at all but it was like watching a rosebud bloom and although, as with all this series, you have to read them with a pinch of 'leave your believability at the door' it madness me want to continue the Winston saga even more. We all want someone strong with our sweet and vulnetable with our invincibility and this series has that in spades.
"Best of the year!!!"
Love Cletus!!! My expectations were huge and Penny Reid's fabulous writing lived up to them.
Probably my favorite novel of the year.
The book was better. The folks reading the book just made it weird. But thanks audible
My only issue with this book is Cletus as a romantic lead. I had an image of him in my head looking like Zack Galifianakis from the previous books. Anything BUT handsome.
Really, other than that, this was an enjoyable story with fantastic performance.
I do rate the story slightly less interesting than the first two, though.
All I can say is
Thank you, thank you Penny for writing the most perfect book. For me this book is everything I love.
(low angst ... high romance and swoon worthy Cletus quotes)
"5 Beard Science Stars"
Cletus & Jennifer
This book took me on an emotional roller coaster, I found myself tearing up for Jennifer, and it wasn't even a sad part. That’s really never happened to me before this empathy for a character where nothing tragic happened.
Maybe it’s because she was hidden under lock and key kind of things, she was made to be pretty and be seen but not have a voice.
I am soooo glad Cletus was her man, he too had to get to know the real Jennifer just as much as she had to become the Jennifer she was always meant to be.
It really is a story of growing up even if you’re already an adult.
I very much enjoyed the interaction between her and Cletus he is just such a fun character, I found myself smiling and laughing.
This is by far my favorite of the whole series!
The narrators hot dang… Chris does it again…to say I am a fan is an understatement. We also get Joy back as the female and I just love the way she narrates an audiobook she has so much inflection in her words it’s as if you can see them in front of your eyes.
I recommend times 10!! Credit Worthy for sure.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
"Sigh - just love Cletus and Jennifer"
Penny Reid is a genius at winning great stories. You combine her words with great narration by Chris and Joy and you have a perfect audio book.
As always, simply wonderful. I love the way the characters continue to develop. This couple is really special.
"Great narration for a great book"
This book is full of interesting characters, and kept in engaged from from to finish. It's always satisfying spending time with the Winston brothers. The narration was perfect for the book. Highly recommended.
I loved the voice actors! they both did an excellent job. I had already read the book a couple times, the audio version makes the story even better!
This was a funny, tender, real, surprising romance. The main characters were constantly surprising me with their reactions, in a good way. I was literally laughing out loud at the witty dialogue and assorted shenanigans. Great read and the audio is amazing, too!!
Oh Cletus......... he's adorable, as are all the Winston boys. In the previous 2 Winston Brothers' books he comes across as extremely quirky, regimental and completely set in his ways, and book 3 only cements my opinion of that. However, Jennifer Sylvester (the banana cake queen) is equally as quirky and is in fact his ideal companion. It's a shame they don't realise they are the perfect couple, neither of them have trouble matching up other people with their soulmates, however they seem to live in denial when it comes to themselves. As much as I loved Jennifer, she had absolutely no back bone until Cletus took her under his wing. I actually felt empowered when she stood up to her father. I loved the way she challenged Cletus, I loved the way she got one up on him and I loved the way she made him feel. A beautifully written book, told in dual POV, it made me laugh out loud. A sweet, charming, funny story and a must read for Penny Reid fans.
Another great book from Penny Read; perfectly read by Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley. A tale of innocence and blackmail and beards and cakes and pies and being surprised by love.
Part of the Winston Brothers series and linked to knitting in the city but can be read alone.
I loved it, I'm sure you will too.
