The outcome of that vicious fight drastically changes both men's fortunes, and propels Starbuck into the ghastly bloodletting at the Second Battle of Manassas, and into a severe test of his ability to lead men who are on the very edge of disaster. As the endless war rages on, neither Yankees nor rebels can guess how the tide may turn. Only time, courage, and belief in the cause will tell.

This is a great series from start to finish, fast paced and entertaining, great narration, fiction surrounded by history.
"Fantastic way to learn history!"
Excellent story and excellent rendition by the reader! I recommend this book and series to anyone interested in getting a true feel for the civil war.
"Lots of battle descriptions"
This 3rd book in the Starbuck series was one battle after the other. Interesting history, but not enough human interest to keep my interest. The other books in the series were wonderful. It did not enjoy this one though.
"The best Civil War stories I've experienced"
This is one of the best Civil War stories that ever experienced; I would strongly recommend it to anyone that has an interest in the Civil War and you will get to see the war through the eyes of a soldier. I hope Bernard Cornwell continues on to Gettysburg and eventually to Appomattox Courthouse.
