Kaitlyn Parker has no problem being the invisible girl, which is why she finds herself hiding in various cabinets and closets all over her college campus. Despite her best efforts, she can't escape the notice of Martin Sandeke - bad boy, jerkface bully, and the universe's hottest, wealthiest, and most unobtainable bachelor - who also happens to be Kaitlyn's chemistry lab partner.
Kaitlyn might be the only girl who isn't interested in exploiting Martin's stunning rower's build, chiseled features, and family's billionaire fortune. Kaitlyn wants Martin for his brain, specifically to tabulate findings of trace elements in surface water.
When Kaitlyn saves Martin from a nefarious plot, Martin uses the opportunity to push Kaitlyn out of her comfort zone: spring break, one week, house parties, bathing suits, and suntan lotion. Can she overcome her aversion to being noticed? Will he be able grow beyond his self-centered nature? Or, despite their obvious chemistry, will Martin be the one to drive Kaitlyn into the science cabinet of obscurity for good?
Contains mature themes.

"Ardent Penny Reid Fan, but so mad re: cliffhanger"
Well... I love the Knitting in the City AND the Winston Bro's books, so I was a little disappointed in this book. The writing was somewhat immature, and seemed to be missing the Penny Reid sophisticated wit... BUT, what really, really bummed me out was the cliffhanger! I was sooo disappointed in Ms. Reid - cliffhangers are below her.
I would not, but only because of the cliffhanger.... you have to pay another $30+ to find out what happens. I won't do it because I am diametrically opposed to buying three books to get one story. I should have done my research before buying the first story, so that is on me!
To finish the story.
Perhaps this was early work by Ms. Reid, as her other books are thorough and complete. I love series, not three books to finish one story.
"NOTHING LIKE KEEPING YOU HANGING ON!!!"
Nothing like keeping you hanging on for the next book. Once I got through all the weird/strange monologue and listened to the good parts of the story it ended abruptly. I hate it when books do that to you, at least it could have given you a little more of what next to expect. Plus why in every book you read when a girl finds a guy making out with another girl they walk away???? Why don't they confront them at the time??? Put them on the spot?? Just once I would love to read a story to see what the guy does and what excuse he makes up and to see how both girls react - the one he's cheating on and the one he is cheating with!
Anyway this is a good story regardless of the strange main girl of the book so I plan on purchasing the next book. I guess that's what they want you to do to make the money. But just saying.....it sucks!!!!
"Cute and Fun"
I will start with the review of the book. I really like Penny Reid's writing she's witty and fun. I didn't want to stop listening. Kaitlyn is pretty silly at times but I love that she's a practical thinker. Martin seems to be the perfect "book boyfriend" all about the girl but in general he's very flawed. He's truly a entitled jerk but let's face it's hard to resist a guy that wants to pamper and protect his girl.
So this is where I talk about what's wrong with this book(s). I hate hate hate this broken up format this story is only one book. It not quite bothersome if your only purchasing the 2.99 Kindle books but it becomes spendy if you want the audiobook. I did not use credits to purchase these books, if I would have, it would been over $30. If you choose to read these book be sure to purchase the Kindle book and add the audiobook it will cost you about $17 which equals less than 2 credits.
"nerdy in the best way!"
Cris brought Penny's characters alive! loved it! Nerdy and funny! I want to take a chemistry class now!
"Off to a good start!"
Yes, I certainly would. Narrator Cris Dukehart is very good. I liked her instincts for giving vocal personality to main characters Kaitlyn and Martin as well as to the supporting characters.
This novel was recommended to me by my book buddy, Teresa M., who loved it and gifted the e-book box set to me for my April 2016 birthday. I will admit that the synopsis didn't really stand out to me when I originally read it, but I waited several months and just went into it blind. Not remembering the synopsis at all, I dove into this listen with just my friend's enthusiastic recommendation in mind. I liked Kaitlyn's quirks and Martin's alpha tendencies, so I see why my book buddy recommended it to me now. Obviously, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes quirky female heroines and alpha male heroes.
No. This is my first of her performances that I'm aware of and I enjoyed it a lot. I dove right into the next novel in this series, Heat (Elements of Chemistry #2) before even writing the review for this first one.
Elements of Chemistry: When Attraction Trumps Logic
I'm hooked and almost done with Heat (Elements of Chemistry #2) as I post this review.
This book was enjoyable and entertaining, light romance with a twist of mystery. Great for a stress free fast read.
"Can't go wrong w/ a Penny Reid book"
I can't go on enough about the witty humor Penny Reid writes.... I love her writing.
"For a different audience"
I've enjoyed reading Penny Reid's previous books. They are about women in their twenties finding love. The plots are good but Ms. Reid's characters are the big draw for me; quirky, smart, caring and very human in their foibles.
I waited to read this trilogy by Ms. Reid until all three were out in audio. And I didn't look at the Amazon reviews. So it was rather a shock to listen to books that are meant for a different audience.
The narrator is a quite young woman (based on her voice and her style). She over dramatizes somewhat, but she's quite competent compared to other young woman readers I've heard. I didn't love her, but she didn't get in the way of listening.
The books however are, I guess, New Adult? They're basically a vehicle for lots of sex, although more sexual innuendo initially than actual sex. I think these could easily have been one book, and a shorter one. Because it's a trilogy, there seems to be more excess angst and teen drama than if it was one book because of the need to fill out the 3 volumes.
My best guess about this book is that it could have been an early attempt at writing by Ms. Reid that she was encouraged to publish based on the popularity of her other books. The writing is fairly polished, but the whole outlook of the book is very juvenile, and the plot is so slight that it can't really hold up interest through the 3 volumes.
It actually feels like a bit of a rip off for Penny Reid fans; there was no heads up that this was New Adult (it would be YA except for the sex, sex, sex). And her other books are so much better than these three that it's sad that she may turn off some of her readers who might start with these 3 and not have an idea of what she's capable of. I will certainly no longer preorder her books.
So, given that you want to read a rather drawn out, rather angsty love affair between a nerdy, but apparently beautiful girl and a very handsome but rather jerky big man on campus who is trying to reform, you might be very happy with this series. Ms. Reid does write well. Buy and enjoy.
But if you think you're getting another book as good as Ms. Reid's Knitting in the City series, beware!
"Funny, sweet, romance with a little heat"
Funny, smart, angst
Parker was my favorite because I love how strong willed she is, how smart she is, and I love how she is not afraid to speak her mind about everyday things and if she feels something isn't right.
There were many but for not I will say when he shows up at her apartment at 7am to get her to go away with him.
I didn't think I would but I ended up spending the majority of my Saturday listening to this audiobook.
I loved the narrator Cris Dukehart
Damn this is good.
So many questions.
Can't wait for the next book.
What a cliff hanger. Funny and smart. I do highly recommend this book and author.
