When Lauren and Ryan's marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart and only one rule: They cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.
Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren's ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?

"You'll laugh, weep and fly through each crazy-readable page." (Redbook)
"The intriguing premise and well-drawn characters contribute to an emotionally uplifting and inspiring story." (Booklist)
"As uplifting as it is brutally honest - a must-read." (Kirkus Reviews)
This is the perfect book for anyone going through a hard time in their relationships right now. It was just what I needed at the right time.
And as usual, Taylor makes it so easy to convince her readers that there will always be hope for human connections. No regrets.
Thank you to my wonderful sister Chooi Wen Khoo for introducing her work to me.
Absolutely not. I enjoy chick lit, but this was like a eating a sugar-free piece of hard candy when you were promised Godiva. There's just nothing to it, and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I didn't like Lauren -- I mean, the character was so... blah she almost doesn't merit dislike, but whatever. Ryan: flat. Charlie: flat. Rachel: halfway inflated. I didn't like the family - it felt fake. The grandmother was an attempt at quirky characterization but it felt forced. Ugh, I just can't really articulate what a big pile of nothing good this book is.
If you enjoy witty chick lit with well-developed characters, do not waste your money here.
The narrator sounded like a chipmunk.
No. There's not enough depth there to sustain a series.
"Ms Reid I am floored."
A simple story told simply. .. no frills or extra fluff and yet so soulful. You know what the end is going to be and yet it keeps you glued till the very last syllable. Three cheers Ms Reid.
Interesting novel. Enjoyed listening, but it wasn't one that I thought about a lot afterwards or made me seek out the author for more.
"I wanted to like it"
But it is simply too.....simple, or facile. I never felt a connection to the protagonist. I wanted to like it, but I gave up after less than an hour. Others may love it...just not for me.
"Love this book!!"
insightful, well written, kept my attention the entire listen. Such a great message! I Love this author!
I read this in 2 days because I was instantly hooked. I laughed, shed some tears, and felt the story. It was a very good read and I would recommend. The characters have unique personalities that I see in my daily life and I relate a lot to the main character. If you are thinking about getting this book, DO IT.
I finished this book months ago, and am still mad about wasting my time. The story and characters were silly to me. I am generally a mystery/crime/historical fiction reader, but love some Chic Lit to have a break from the seriousness. I found the narrator annoying, or maybe it was just the words she was reading... Who names a dog "Thumper?" I realize that may seem trivial, but this dog is mentioned SO MANY times in this book. It's basically a main character. A dog. Main character.
I really enjoyed this book! I cruised through it in a matter of days. Don't pass this one up. It's great!
"Loved this book!"
I absolutely loved this book. This is my second one by this author and I've really enjoyed them both. I would highly recommend it. I was only disappointed when it ended.
