"Intricately woven story....well worth a listen"
This is a series (unfortunately for me) I started with this one, the last in the series!! I have to read the others to get up to speed-- because McGuire has me that interested in going back to listen to the others! This book can be read as a stand alone because McGuire gives enough back ground information to keep you abreast of some of the complicated relationships between the characters. She did an absolutely STELLAR job of giving just enough information to keep the current story relevant, but, at the same time, makes you want to go back and read the story lines you have missed!
If you choose this listen, you will find the story synopsis was vague and no where near the intricacies of relationships between the characters. Two of the brothers are FBI and their cover has been blown making the entire family a target for the mob. What transpires as the story unfolds shows the emotional trauma that is family unfold as they realize that despite the hurt and what some of them considered betrayal, their only chance of survival is sticking together and fight for their lives.
Joe Arden always delivers a steady, excellent performance. This is my first listen to Ms. Schanubelt, but she also did a good job.
I recommend using a credit for this story. It is relevant, heart wrenching in some places and the character development is unparalleled! Well done Ms. McGuire!
A beautiful ending to a wonderful series. I've truly enjoyed the journey. I wish that one of the people didn't have to die. that was a hard one to take.
"Don't read this book if you love the series!"
I was so disappointed with this book. I have loved this series so much! And to have it end this way. I felt that things were still left unresolved and the family was left in so much turmoil! It was terribly sad and one of the character deaths was so unnecessary to the story and useless. And then to just brush it off with one sentence was unfair. This book left me hanging with the status on all of the Maddox boys and their relationships.
I wish that I had read reviews prior to reading this book as it has left me sad and wishing that I didn't read it.
Get out the tissues. I loved the entire collection of Maddox's. Jamie made a very strong family with them , warts and all . Best advice start from beginning and keep on to the end. Betting once you begin you're not to go to the end. Even reread as I do
"Balling my eyes out."
Jamie McGuire is an amazing author. This isn't the usual genre I read, but that's how good this series is. This book will have you crying your eyes out.
If you're going to have a long series, the finale has to be amazing. Well, Jamie McGuire has outdone herself. I have loved every Maddox boy story, but wow. This is by far my favorite and the most emotional. It took all I had not to cry like a baby.
"Sad but beautiful!"
I did like this book, A LOT, but still so stinkin sad!! The Maddox family will always hold a special place with me and how Book families go. I hope Jamie writes more about this family too.
"a roller-coaster of emotions!!!"
Totally unpredictable ending to all loosen ties. All possible emotions in one simple family story
"I didn't know I could ever dislike Travis Maddox!"
I'm a big fan of these Beautiful Maddox books. This is the first book from the series that just didn't blow me away. My biggest complaint is my favorite Maddox, Travis', image has been completely altered. I've always viewed Travis and Abby as the stars of the series, but This book has really caused me to view them as selfish, childish and arrogant. I won't give any spoilers, but this book is supposed to be about the whole Maddox clan and Travis and Abby are portrayed as this couple that think they are somehow more important than the rest... Nobody can be better than them or be more emotionally stable to handle sensitive FBI information. They only think of themselves and that's not the couple I saw in previous books. What I did love about the book was getting to see the family years later. I really like catching up with the characters and hearing what they've been doing for the past decade.
"Read the Rest of the Series First...But loved it!"
I thought this ending was a perfect full circle for the characters...I'm not sure why some of the other reviewers didn't like it and said it left them hanging, I thought Jamie wrapped it all up with a Beautiful Bow. I love all of the Maddox boys and I've loved all of their stories and while this wasn't my favorite in the series...it certainly seemed necessary to bring it all together. Well done Jamie and I loved both of the narrators and thought they did wonderfully.
