"Middle Book Syndrome?"
Good, but not great...
Part two of The Professional picks up right where it left off in part one. (the very steamy sauna) As much as I enjoyed the beginning part of this book, it suddenly took a weird turn. I understand this is erotica, but it went from an exciting Russian Mafia story to a Fifty Shades of Grey BDSM plot. I don’t mind all the sex, but I just didn’t like the way it was written. Some of it made me cringe and laugh. It was a little over-the-top and unexpected for Kresley Cole. In spite of all of that, I still enjoyed most of the story and thought it was a 4 star listen. I hope the final installment is better and that this one just suffered from “middle book syndrome”.
"Kresley Cole Erotica"
I read all three parts in ebook format before listening to Part 2 and enjoyed the overall story, but I would only recommend The Professional to fans of erotica. Reading some of these reviews, I get the feeling that it wasn't clear that The Professional is an erotica book, rather than straight-up romance (think X-rated vs. R-rated). It probably doesn't help that Audible categorized Part 1 as "Fiction > Contemporary" rather than "Romance > Erotica".
I would have released all three parts as one audiobook. Part 2 covers chapters 18-33 of the story, but it doesn't hold up as a stand-alone story (which I don't believe it was meant to, anyway).
Yes, I would. She did a great job as Natalie and with American accents. Her Russian accent is decent as well, but I would have enjoyed it more if she dialed back on her Russian accents a bit. I didn't find them very sexy and it distracted from the story. She did a good job overall though.
If Fifty Shades of Grey can be made into a movie, why not The Professional? It's a much better story than Fifty Shades, anyway. (All three parts, that is...not just Part 2 on its own.)
Even though I've read Part 3 in ebook format already, I'm still looking forward to Part 3 in audiobook format, and I'm definitely looking forward to other books in this new series (The Game Maker) in the future. Fans of Kresley Cole, keep in mind that Part 2 covers chapters 18-33 of the book (Part 1 covers chapters 1-17 and Part 3 covers chapters 34-44 and epilogue), AND this is _erotica_ with lots of BDSM and other XXX-rated naughtiness. Not for the faint of heart!
"WHAT... is behind that curtain!"
WOW... JUST WOW! I totally love KC books, and man can she write a cliffhanger. I was so wrapped in this part 2, even though I already read the book... I was just as shocked at the end as Natalie... counting down the days for part 3 to release... I so want a Russian Mafioso now!
Narration was awesome... great buy or sale... save credit for something more expensive.
"A delicious BDSM"
I was initially very upset at Audible to have broken down a book into three parts and so after reading the first book, I did a search and found-out that was how the books were released. This is one story cut up over three books and each short enough that all would have made one book of about 12.5 hrs total but the readers will pay for three books. This May the books will be released as one, so if you can wait, it may be best to pay one credit rather than about $18 for all three. Great story but I really like how witty Kresley Cole is. Wonderful one liners are throughout the books. A definite 5 stars.
"Better AND worse than Part One"
I'm really at a crossroads about this book. I think Sevastyan is a hot character, as is the chemistry between Nat and him, BUT. I am OVER this format. If anything, this second part of The Professional is making me question Ms. Cole a bit. Would all of her books be this frustrating (not just in the good "Next time on..." way) if published in installments? Although we finally got some deliciously delicious sex, that was the only good part. The rest was b.s. drama between the two, without any of the anticipation and build up from Part One, and by necessity no HEA we're going to get from Part Three. Or should I say, the HEA we'd better get!
In my review of Part One, I made comment that I wished I'd waited to purchase until the entire thing was published (preferably as one volume). This installment only reinforces my earlier opinion. Because it ended on a cliffhanger, part of me wanted to download the next one right away and keep going. But, I was so irritated with Natalie and a little bit Sevastyan, that I still haven't bought Part Three. I probably will sooner than later, but since it feels like I'm having to overpay for a less-than-awesome Kresley Cole story that isn't even narrated by Robert Petkoff....I'm not in a huge rush. Ya know?
This one was extra spicy! Not the greatest follow up in terms of storyline--it really takes an abrupt turn--but the hotness factor was off the charts. Sevastyan's tortured soul is further revealed but he still remains shrouded in mystery, while Natalie tries to keep up and discovers her own kinky side. The first book was SO good, I wanted this one to be equal to that, but, in all honesty it lacked just a bit. Overall, the superior sex, the humor and the excellent narration makes this a worthy purchase. I'm hoping book three will seriously bring the fire as well as a nice little HEA.
"And the TEASE continues...."
I am NOT a fan of having KC books released in parts! I am into instant and complete gratification. The book is awesome like all her work, if you're a fan you're getting the book anyway. Just be prepared to scream when it ends abruptly....it's a TEASE!
"I'm clearly teetering on the fence with this..."
I really feel cheated. This wasn't horrible just wasn't anything special at all. I loved the beginning of this miniseries but this part just failed in comparison to the first installment. I'm confused by the direction the series is going. There was no real forward progress aside from one major development. While I like the chemistry between Sevastyn and Natalie, I found them both a bit irritating in this 2nd installment. Sevastyn is too closed off. I understand this is who he is, I just want more from him. As for Natalie, I found her slightly whiny. When we are first introduced to her she's independent and her own women, but now she seems to have lost some of her spark. I really hope things turn around in the next installment. If I were looking at the series as a whole, this part wouldn't have bothered me soooo freaking much, but since they keep throwing little pieces out there, I'm judging the individual parts and this one was lacking big time. Seriously, what happened to the action and suspense of a Russian hitman romance I was hoping for??? It was refreshing to have something different rather than another BDSM-themed plot line. I'm going to cross my fingers and have faith the next installment will possibly make up for this one.
"Continuation of a bad story"
This is just a continuation of The Professional story line. Much the same as the first book. Not good and seeming to get worse by the minute.
"Hmmm, kind of a strange turn..."
I didn't like the bdsm turn that this book took. The dialogue was ridiculous, and didn't seem well thought out. People, JUST DON'T TALK LIKE THAT!
That being "said," the overall story is good, it just would have been made so much stronger without the poor dialogue, and ridiculous sex scenes.
This was my least favorite, and I don't think I've ever rolled my eyes as much as I did while listening to The Professional: Part 2
Less ridiculous sex scenes, and FAR LESS ridiculous dialogue. It pulled you out of the story, and that's never a good thing.
