This "New Species" erotic romance by best-selling author Laurann Dohner features Trisha Norbit, a self-assured, smart-beyond-her-years doctor. Aroused to the brink by a patient whose life she saves, she changes the entire course of her life as a victim of her own lust only to survive life-on-the-run as the object of love for a wayward pharmaceutical company’s experiment that resulted in someone mostly man, but part animal as well. Vanessa Chambers, by turns stern, humorous, and passionate, narrates a tale of yearning for the "forbidden fruit" that once ignited is almost impossible to contain.
Dr. Trisha Norbit is flat on her back in a hospital bed, pinned under a really big New Species male. Though drugged out of his mind, he promises her ecstasy and is determined to deliver - but hospital staff intervenes. 215 is a man Trisha will never forget. But, when she meets him again at Homeland... he doesn’t even remember her!
The nosy new doctor wants to know all about the breeding habits between humans and Species. Slade proposes a hands-on education but she’s not interested in a one-night stand. He can’t offer more because he’s haunted by the memory of a woman he once tried to claim. He’s shocked when he realizes they are one and the same. He's blown it - she’ll never give him a chance now.
But, when her life is in danger, he’s the only one who can save her. As they flee through the wilderness, their desire ignites and cannot be denied. Hot sex, on the run, has consequences that are even more dangerous and will change their lives forever.
Reader Advisory: There is a scene of an attempted rape.

This book revolves around Slade's finding of his mate while still introducing some more amazing characters and continuing a little with Fury and Elle's story.
It has a good story line and allows you to go off into a fantasy world and forget about what is happening around you.
The interaction between the characters is really good - particularly the males. I had a good laugh during sections of the book.
I have read many breed novels and Slade's story is similar to many of them. There are important differences though - in how they met, what mistakes both sides made, how their story will combine with others in the series.
There were many scenes that I really enjoyed in this book. The one I really laughed through was Slade's and Brawn's interaction at the end of the book. I don't want to give away the ending and telling would definitely affect the listeners enjoyment.
I found it very confronting how the 'mountain men' spoke about the New Species and their willingness to just kill anyone around - particularly the young driver who was shot and tortured by them even though he was human.
This book is definitely worth a listen.
"Very Addictive Series!"
This is a very addictive series for me. I've listened to the first seven stories back to back, and honestly do not have anything negative to say except I love some of the New Species characters more than others. I am so made at myself for waiting so long to listen to these stories..... they are awesome!
I know Slade may not be others favorite characters but he is one of mine especially later in the series, but I don't want to give anything away just in case someone has just started this series. However, the sex scene with Slade and Trisha in the forest, OMG it was off the charts, loved it!
I am a die hard fan of PNR that are slightly on the edgy side, so this series is a must for me.
"Good, not great--but I'm still a fan!"
Ok so I swoooooooned over Fury (book 1), but, Slade just made me 'swoo'---the story was decent, but, I found it lacking a little in terms of depth or drama considering how many action packed and full of endearing moments the first book had. Slade had its highs and lows throughout, but, by the end it just ended abruptly, which was a bummer. The best parts of this story was the quick wit of the characters--there were moments where I laughed out loud, and the great sex scenes---HOT. I'm still a fan, because this is a good series and I'm curious about how the New Species world will continue to develop.
I've already downloaded book 3, and judging by the brief introduction of Valiant in book 2, I'm SO ready to listen.
"What kind of ending was that?"
What kind of ending was that? I don't know what happened to the main character in the end. Did she survive? I never thought the author wouldn't carry the reader through to the end of her experience. I had to look at audible to make sure I wasn't missing a part 3. Couldn't believe it was over. I re-listened to the ending and still don't get it.
If another book of her's ends this abruptly I won't try another one.
The main character
The ending pissed me off.
What happened to the MC, did she survive the experience?
"Nice Comeback from First Book!"
Slade's insecurities made the book more appealing.
The male voices, except for Tiger's, were a great improvement from the first book.
I'm definitely hooked on the series once finishing this book.
"Great story but read poorly"
Need better narrator. Sorry but the narrator made Slade sound like a lame jerk. I've read this book before and love the story. I know Slade acts like a jerk sometimes but the way the narrator read his parts made him sound like that all the time, even during the sex scenes!
I love the New Species world and this second story open the possibility of hope to the species people... and the continuation of the stories for hopefully a long time.
I would say no but since she is the narrator to the next books in this series I guess I have no choice.
No, I could only take the disappointment of hearing Slade in that tone for a little at a time.
I would like this book re-narrated. I would even purchase it again because I love these stories so much and want them in my library. I have actually listened to books 3 & 4 with this same narrator and she did a much better job with portraying Valiant and Justices voices.
I like his sarcasm.
Slade and Trisha together.
She is great with the females but not good with male voices.
One of my favorites in the series.
"3.5 Stars Slow start But Picks up"
I ave listened to many of LD's books including the Cyborg series. I listened to Fury and thought I had to listen this book. It was a bit of a shock to discover there are book 13 books in a series which had somehow eluded me, it was recommended that they be read in order so I'm slowly working my way through them.
'Fury' was interesting and intriguing and I wasn't surprised that this was such a long series since the possibilities seem endless.
I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with this book, no, let me correct that I was disappointed with the first half of this book, for me personally they spent far too long in the woods but the second half was wonderful, I love every new character that gets introduced and can't wait to get to their books. Slade annoyed the hell out of me at times but of course I grew to love him by the end.
I'd rate the first half of this book 2 stars and the second half 5 so I'm settling on 3.5 and now I'm on to Valiant.
I felt that Vanessa Chambers did a pretty good job with the delivery of the story but not nearly as good as Mindy Kennedy in the Cyborg series.
"Book 2 not so hot!"
Book 1 was really good... but book 2 was kind of boring... I skipped like 6 chapters and followed right along, like I didn't miss nothing.. The couple's chemistry was still just eh!
If you plan to invest into the entire series, I would get this b/c more info about the New Species are revealed...but each book is a stand-alone... so this could be skipped... I gave up on the series though...
So... Credit or Sale… not worth the buy...
Narration was ok… I liked Narration from book one better...
"did the same author write this book?"
given story from book one this second book is totally out of character and has a storyline and dialogue between the two main characters that is to say the least juvenile. It is not worth a credit and it's not even worth the sale book.
It's an incomplete story. This audiobook ends abruptly and without resolving the major conflicts in the story. If this is the author's idea of how to end a story, she will quickly lose me as a reader. I can not in good conscious recommend this book to anyone. It left me feeling very frustrated.
"Another great book"
Another great read/listen in this series looking forward to the rest. Didn't think I would like theses books but I'm so surprised.
"Glad I bought it"
He'd tie for first place with Die for Me and The Fault in Our Stars.
How funny Slade was, he is so sweet and possible and annoyingly endearing.
The voices, oh my gosh the voicesvoices. She made them so real and different from each other, and practically made me fall in love with every single New Species I met.
I'm buying myself at least three for Christmas! At least...
