"when she was bad!!!!!"
what an amazing story! I was hooked from the first chapter, so much so that I had to finish it in one sitting. The characters were totally believable, the plot unfurled like an onion - layer upon layer giving you insights into each character. The narrator's voice was brilliantly mesmerising too. I'm looking forward to the next book from this author.
not sure if I missed something but there was no explanation why they felt how they did about the son. some very good accents in the narration.
I didn't dislike this book. It kept my interest with its 'who is it' theme but there were moments when I found the narrative extremely dull. It was a good story and a clever idea but far too long. It will transfer well to the screen ( probably as a TV series) and overall as I say it was not too bad.
The reader is brilliant The story slowly unfolds - the ending is not as you had been guessing throughout Good read
This was one of the most gripping books I've listened. It's a definite page turner and not badly written. You can materialize the characters in the book very easily.
I also liked "In a Dark, Dark Wood" although they have different settings, I think both books are good thrillers.
She's excellent with accents but her voice failed to reflect any emotions.
It covers child neglect and abuse and I found this very disturbing. I normally try to avoid books that have this sort of thing in it. But I was already been absorbed by the book at that stage so I kept on listening. It made me cry.
(Spoiler)I'm giving 4 stars because I think one question was left unanswered - why did they do it to only one child?
"Strange Modus Operandi"
I was thoroughly enjoying this psychological thriller until the point where the actual murder is revealed. For me, the method seems so far fetched that I had to 'google' it to see if it was possible. Lo & behold it actually happened to someone in real life, so I stand corrected! Nevertheless I think the author could have chosen a method that was better related to the murderer's personality & past. It was almost as though the author had read about a death & thought oh I'm going to use that one in my next book ! I could relate to the various interesting characters & there were a couple of twists in the plot, so on the whole it was a fairly enjoyable read.
"Not for me - sorry. I'm requesting a refund"
Just not for me. It felt like it droned on in.a predictable manner. Disappointing for me.
"An anti climax"
I struggled to get into this audio book. This certainly wasn't because of the narrator as she was excellent. The constant jumping between past and present was difficult to keep up with and became a little annoying. When the final big reveal happened at the end, it was a wee bit of an anti-climax.
The 'past' story was intriguing and featured the traumatic tale of child abuse as seen through the eyes of a child psychologist. This part was interesting and quite gripping. The 'present' story was in comparison quite drawn out and a little tiresome as the characters featured were a little stereotypical and predictable.
The account of the 'past' child psychologist as it was interesting and gripping.
I would not recommend this book. Any promise it had fizzled out during the middle and completely died somewhere near the end. Poor story with no actual purpose.
I think I need a change now because I'm finding almost everything predictable.
Fantastic, absolutely brilliant . One of the best psychological thrillers I've read or listened to in a long time.
