Publisher's Summary

When you're all that stands between the murderous past and the fate of those you love, how far would you go to save them?

When Audrey Kepler inherits an abandoned homestead in rural Queensland, she jumps at the chance to escape her loveless existence in the city and make a fresh start. In a dusty back room of the old house, she discovers the crumbling photo of a handsome World War II medic - Samuel Riordan, the homestead's former occupant - and soon finds herself becoming obsessed with him. But as Audrey digs deeper into Samuel's story, she discovers he was accused of bashing to death a young woman on his return from the war in 1946. When she learns about other unexplained deaths in recent years - one of them a young woman with injuries echoing those of the first victim - she begins to suspect that the killer is still very much alive. And now Audrey, thanks to her need to uncover the past, has provided him with good reason to want to kill again.

Wonderful story, one I could listen to again

Where does Thornwood House rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's the best so far!

What did you like best about this story?

It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way, with many twists! I loved that it was set in Australia too.

What does Eloise Oxer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I have actually read the book and loved it so much I wanted to listen to it. The way Eloise read was better than I imagined. Hearing her read, made me fall even more in love with some characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes for sure but it wasn't possible, I spread it over 4 days....

Any additional comments?

I cannot recommend this book enough...my favourite novel in 2014.

Great book

Refreshing to listen to (for me) a new author, great story and wonderful narration. Highly recommend this Australian author. The story is well laced together and keeps the listener guessing. Loved the style and the language. Eloise Oxer handles the varied characters well and as one other listener commented, the children sound like kids not cutesy sickly sweet cartoon characters.

Loved this novel. Excellent writer, excellent reader too, could see everything so clearly in my minds eye. Just wanted to keep listening none stop. It had everything I like. Mystery past and present, lost love found, thrilling edge of seat stuff, family drama. Just loved it.

Returned this book

Couldn’t get past the first few chapters, tried a few times ... may have been the narrator.

A Truly Beautiful Story

This novel combines mystery, ghosts of the past, romance and family drama - all seamlessly. It is a beautiful story, with very good narration.
We are very blessed to currently have some wonderful Australian women authors, so if you enjoy Kate Morton or Liane Moriarty, I think you will love this book as well.

Fabulous

This is by far the best audible book I have read. Great story and great characters. I usually never listen twice, however, I have listened to this many, many times!
