To start with, I purchased the abridged version by accident (mistake No.1)
Now it may sound strange, but I find that a mid 80s sounding synth keyboard being used as background music throughout a story with the intent of providing "ambiance" can be a little distracting. Should have listened to a sample first! (mistake No.2)
So needless to say, this audio book was switched off within five minutes of hitting the play button. I had read some great reviews and all, but something just wasn't right with it. I mean.... it just seemed....somewhat watered down...
After another short web based research session I discovered, to my utter dismay, that I had just purchased a "christian horror novel"!
I'll paraphrase a quote from another unknown reviewer, "the idea of a christian horror novel is as ridiculous as the idea of christian porn." Didn't do my research!
To make matters much worse, I discovered that upon charging the $9.99 to my old credit card by mistake (which is now inactive) I had incurred a $30 non-refundable bank fee! (mistake No.4)
So to summarize, I payed $40 to listen to 5 minutes of a 2 hour long "christian horror novel" with a six year old mashing the keys of a cheap, battery operated, toy piano in the background whilst I clawed at the steering wheel of my car and fumbled through my iPhone to find the stop button, narrowly missing a pedestrian in the process.
Excuse me while I punch myself in the face......
"Frank E. Peretti is one talented individual"
Entertaining, captivating, thrilling
Sad to say but my favorite character was Rafar Prince of Babylon. Frank does his voice so well. When he speaks you listen.
Each characters voice is well executed. I would run at night while listening to this book, and there were times I was frightened.
Marshall Hogan. Because that man leads an interesting life.
This audiobook might seem old school, but it's well worth the money. It was well done and is still holding its weight today.
"Not what I expected"
I wanted the full novel, but this is summaries of each chapter. It still tells the story, but did not meet my expectations. Would not have purchased had I known, should have looked closer at the description.
Frank did an AMAZING job reading the book and bringing the true essence of the experience to life. It made my commute incredibly enjoyable for days...because I listened to it three times in a row.
Definitely worth the listen!
narration was wonderful, story eye-opening , breathtaking!
Highly recommend open your spiritual eyes. God bless!
This is a great book well worth a listen. The only problem I have is with the narrator. I think he only narrates the abridged version of a couple of his books. IMHO Peretti is as good a narrator as he is an author and I wish he would narrate all of his books unabridged. I would also like to see the Cooper Kids Adventures (narrated by Peretti) published someday!
I've loved this series since I was 14. great insight into life's unseen spiritual battles
"Left out most of the story."
This abridged version never developed the characters. Focused too much on the demons. Somewhat childish.
the narrator was a little stiff at first, but eventually seemed to loosen up and it was great!
the Arthur gave the reader an opportunity to see and visualize every aspect of the Story from beginning to end.
"Great message "
Really liked the story but the authors narration with music and sound effects made it very difficult to concentrate.
"Wonderful story but too abridged "
The story is too abridged. As a result, a lot of detail is left out. This abridge copy does not do justice to the book.
I would take out the sound effects.
His narration was fine.
It might be popular but not for me.
The book seems to be ideal for vary active christians? The supernatural links to what happens is very good. The plot characters do not have much of a backstory. It is churlish of me to criticise when I have not written any books myself, so apologies to the author.
Having read this book before I had pre conceived ideas but being able to just sit there and listen the words became real and the sound effects and music made it a compelling book
"Spiritual warfare at its best"
Want to be gripped by an amazing story of spiritual warfare, intrigue and love then read this captivating book and be enthralled.
