Publisher's Summary

In her stunning 200th novel, #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts proves why no one is better when it comes to flawlessly fusing high-stakes suspense with red-hot romance" (Booklist, starred review).

Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth Fitch finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive.

Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance security systems designer, her own protection is supplemented by a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing. Unfortunately, that seems to be the quickest way to get attention in a tiny southern town.

The mystery of Abigail Lowery and her sharp mind, secretive nature and unromantic viewpoint intrigues local police chief Brooks Gleason, on both a personal and professional level. And while he suspects that Abigail needs protection from something, Gleason is accustomed to two-bit troublemakers, not the powerful and dangerous men who are about to have him in their sights.

And Abigail Lowery, who has built a life based on security and self-control, is at risk of losing both.

"200th Nora Roberts book and going strong"

I LOVED this book! Vintage Nora Roberts, strong characters and a great story.
The book starts with such a huge punch and I spent the rest of the time unable to stop listening desperate to hear just how it was all going to turn out.
Julia Whelan was a new narrator for me and what a joy to find another narrator I like! She was perfect - I am so very glad that i purchased this book I enjoyed every single moment.
Cheers :)

one of Nora Roberts best

this story is the perfect blend of a Nora Roberts romance and a J D Robb drama. WhileAll the characters are believable the unique situation of the main female character is superbly enhanced by a brilliant portrayal by the narrator.

Loved this book

Loved the characters and the intelligent dialogue. Reminded me a bit of Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus.

How vividly I was able to picture the scene and each character as if I was watching a movie

Loved! From start to finish. Loved the story line and the characters. Julia also read this beautifully. Definitely one of my favorite listens.

5 Star story & narration

Great story, excellent narration. I've been a fan of Nora Roberts for years but didn't know it. Am finally trying other books outside her J D Robb series and am loving them. The Witness had great characters, an interesting storyline and enough suspense, humour, quirky (I suspect, on the spectrum) and humour to make it a fabulous read/listen. Highly recommended.

An all time favourite

Love this book by Nora, it just ticks all the boxes. The storyline is different, has a perfect pace, and the hero and heroine characters are so believable and likeable that you really start to be their cheer squad. I have listened to this book too many times to remember. I never leave reviews but this one is worthy. Narration is perfect.
