I really like this new fangled audio-book thing.
I liked the voice over performance by the voice artist. The story was pretty good but all the references to the characters past (performances) was slightly irritating. Lastly the every chance possible referencing to the characters vehicle was kinda annoying but otherwise it was an okay book.
so engaging!! disappointed the story was resolved completely...it did feel like there was a lot still to answer for...but it was good nonetheless!
The ending makes it feel as though the author stopped writing, just as things were getting really good. other than that, I can't complain. Decent story; thought the narration left something to be desired.
The end just left you with more ?'s than answers...I hate stories that don't really ever end, they just stop abruptly.
"The Vanishing Game"
This book didn't catch my interest ,I had a hard time to understand what was going on .Might be good for for someone whom is used to having the story read to them . To be fair I bought this book by mistake .
boring. kept waiting in something big to happen but really a whole bunch of nothing was going on the time. bit of a let down
"1 word: dissapointment"
I was left thinking this can't be it.
I guess I shouldn't have set my hopes up considering it was a marketing thing. I just don't see how building up interest only to disappoint the audience works for them.
Well one can always choose to see it as a clever symbolic representation of the marketing-consumer relationship outcome.
Well, there is one comfort in this disappointment. You don't pay for it.
I didn't realize this was a short story. It was good and I liked the first person narrative. However it left me hanging as it didn't really have an ending.
the story itself was good, performance excellent but there could have been less thoughts much like soliloquies about movie trivia (from movies that didn't exist)that really seemed like fillers. There shouldn't be fillers in a short stories.
Apart from the rather sudden beginning and weird circumstance, I was really into this story. And then the end happened. There is so much unresolved in my mind. It's a good story if you're just trying to get your fix waiting for your next audible credits to roll around, but I'm definitely glad it was free.
I was intrigued the entire time. The ending left me a little perplexed, but otherwise it was a unique and well told story.
"Monotone and weak"
I found it Useless from start to finish for my entertainment purposes
I'm Glad it was free
"A great taster for William Boyd"
If you are curious to find out what William Boyd's work is like, then you would do very well by starting here. This is a neat little short story thriller which has an excellent main character and a plot to keep you intrigued. Ultimately I prefer a novel to a short story and in this case it is because It seemed a shame to have such a good lead man in such a brief tale. The reader is excellent and really adds to the atmosphere.
"Good story rubbish ending."
I enjoyed this audiobook, a new genre for me so I didn't know what to expect.
I did enjoy the story and the narrator did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life, however I won't spoil it for future readers but I thought the end was appalling. It then ruined the story somewhat for me.
"Beware: A Very Short Story"
There's nothing wrong with a short story in itself and this book certainly has an engaging plot. But one of the problems with audiobooks is that, unless you check first - which I didn't, you have little idea of the length of the book. In this case the story stopped abruptly and caught me unawares. I seriously thought there must be a Part 2 to come. It's literally one of the shortest books I've ever read !
"The Vaanishing Game by William Boyd"
Downloaded this as a freebie to see what it was like but with fairly low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised as I really enjoyed the story. It was short but was a complete story with a bit of suspense and intrigue to keep you guessing.
Brilliant listen. Smooth and collected narration coupled with an invigorating storyline that just gets more exciting and perceptive the more you listen; certain you will want to keep listening after the first chapter. Awesome.
Good advert for land rover and b grade action movies with a thriller as well
A shame because the book started off well but just fizzled out at the end and I feel as if Ive missed the point of the tale.
"Very engaging story."
I very much enjoyed this audiobook. Even though it is a relatively short story I found it thoroughly engaging and would definitely recommend it. It was on offer for free on Audible but I would not hesitate to purchase the book and would like to read more from the author.
"Simple story well written"
Enjoyed this great simple story with a tour of Scotland thrown in as a bonus
"nice easy listening"
I got this book as a free fields and I hadn't been expecting much but it actually turned it to be quite enjoyable. It's a good performance, well read and although the story is a little predictable, it's still good fun.
