"Miss M does a little weeding in the garden"
Stephanie Cole has given a very good performance in this little gem from Christie.
Without doing a second reading, I think most of the clues are out there for us to wonder 'Who done it?' and maybe solve this mystery.
While Miss M still has her knitting, she engages in a little work in the garden in this story.
For me while the storms rage outside and the creek swells with water to flood the valley further down, and the power lines are down I have been able to curl up on the couch and listen to this great little story. Maybe this is why some people call such mysteries,'cozies'.
Perhaps not perfect, this was good and is the best Miss M story I have heard on Audible.
"Miss Marple beckons"
I hope to never meet Miss Marple as I am sure of certain death within the hour. However Agatha Christie has once again let Jane Marple solve another mystery with the style and panache that is all her own. Whilst Miss M is not the main character in this story, her hints from the background made this a good read. Stephanie Cole was an excellent narrator and her clear characters were well defined and in some cases most amusing. The pace was perfect, no notable changes in either the audio quality or the readers stamina. Highly recommended.
"Vintage Agatha Christie"
This is Vintage Agatha Christie, a gripping story with lots of twists and turns very well performed by an excellent narrator
"Quick moving and full of suspense"
Great narrator who is perfect for this story, excellent character voices and absolutely perfect Marple. This story is up there with the best of Agatha yet not so well known, written during the war, and published later ... Go on .... Try it....a real treat and a must for all fans of Christie.
Can a child, of 3 years, old remember something that happened 18 years ago, or is she just physic? Things are getting stranger, by the day, day, what is going on, Miss Marple encouraged them to leave things alone, will they take her advice??????
I listened to the audio edition and read the book in equal measure, splitting time between the two. Stephanie Cole's reading really is 'top notch'. There are times when the story sends a shiver up the spine and that really is down to the tremendously atmospheric performance of Cole.
This is the first of all the Christie audio books that really, literally, made me feel chilled as I listened to it.
A great performance on Stephanie Cole's part. Absolutely pitch perfect is terms of the way she allows the tension to mount through her delivery.
Without giving the game away, there is one particular scene when the main character recounts a memory from her childhood that is guaranteed to have the hairs on the back of your neck standing.
Highly recommended and has encouraged me to add to my library of Christie audio readings.
"Possibly my favourite Agatha Christie story!"
I spent a very pleasant day listening to this story as I sowed my Sweet Pea seeds and generally pottered about. Stephanie Cole makes a very good Miss Marple and the story with it's mix of murders old and new should keep the listener guessing. I also liked the gardening references!
"Marple V Poirot"
The first Miss Marple book I?ve heard and it?s entertaining, but I much prefer Agatha Christie?s Poirot. The Narrator was good, but one of the character accents was quite dubious and was grating on me by the end.
All in all a good book, keeps you guessing throughout.
