"A good read"
I really enjoyed Faye Kellerman's A Ritual Bath. Authentically set in the Jewish culture it had just the right amount of depth, intrigue and romance to make it a 'must keep listening'! Can we please have some more of Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus stories, especially the early ones and please keep them in the unabridged format.
This was a rather borimg inconsequential book. I bought it having come from a Jewish orthodox background. The mystery followed no logical plan and there was no way to use one's powers of deduction as with a writer like Agatha Christie. However the narrator was both good and bad. His voice changes were superb but somebody should have taught him how to pronounce the Jewish names and other yiddish ar hebrew words in the text. The only thing to recommend it is that i had a good giggle at his mis-pronounciation. I wont buy anymore of her books
Have always found Faye Kellerman's books engrossing, but was disappointed that the reader did not know how to pronounce many of the words in the book, found it disconcerting.
I read this nearly 30 years ago. Listening to it, read by this great reader added another layer of enjoyment to the rediscovery.
The story is very good indeed, well constructed, beautifully written adn although I sort of guessed half way through, the drive and intensity of the work carried me all the way to the end, eating my fingernails. The initial story of Rena and David is touching and sensitively portrayed.
