Eighteen mutilated women in a Shanghai mass grave. But this is only the beginning of a horrific case for Investigator Li Yan and Mei Ling, head of Shanghai's serious crime squad. Ling is a formidable woman, and she appears to threaten Li Yan's relationship with pathologist Margaret Campbell. But when Campbell discovers that the victims were subjected to live autopsies, she knows she'll need all the help she can get. The Killing Room is the third in the acclaimed China series from Peter May, author of Runaway, Entry Island and the internationally bestselling Lewis Trilogy.

"Long-winded and underwhelming"
I bought this because I was intrigued by the setting. Unfortunately all we get are cliches about the Far East that add little to plot and character. Character in particular is so poorly done that if I hadn't been on a very long car journey without any alternative distraction I would not have finished this audiobook. The relationship between the Chinese detective and the female US pathologist gets in the way of the investigation and both characters aren't even remotely interesting people. In fact very little of the story is spent investigating the crime; 'get back to the bodies', I found myself grumbling all the way. But when that happens, the pathology material is handled in a rather clunky, obtrusive knowledge-dump fashion that a better writer would have known how to integrate more smoothly. Yes, there is a twist in the story at the end but enduring 12 hours to get there wasn't worth it.
Not a series or a writer I will ever be returning to.
The reader tries his best but one gets a sense even he is bored.
"The killing room"
I really enjoyed listening to this story and could not switch it off until I came to the end
Another masterful story telling triumph. The best I've heard yet quite electrifying and highly credible.
Great story lots of twist and turns and a great person doing the narration. Love the whole series so far
"My first Experience of the China series."
Exciting, cleverly written thriller, loaded with interstiing information on Chinese ways of life, with some humour amongst the horrors. Loved it and have just ordered the others in this series. Much prefer this to the Lewis servos.
Loved the story, such a shame have to wait for snakehead, why is that when it was published a few years ago?
What a great storyline. The twists and turns in the plot kept me glued to my kindle.I am going to look for book 4 now.
"Probably the best of the China thrillers so far?"
Peter May and Peter Forbes are an unbeatable combination. A great read. But nothing beats the Lewis trilogy
"Another Superb Book from Peter May"
Absolutely excellent. Beautifully written and painstakingly researched. Even though there is a lot of detail and technical material, the story flows so well. You always learn a great deal from Peter May's novels. Peter Forbes is the best narrator and I wish he could narrate every book in the audible shop. This is the 3rd in the China thriller series, such a pity that for some inexplicable reason the 4th book is not available in the uk audible store.
"Intriguing, fascinating, and unusual"
Once again Peter May has produced a story like no other. Set in unique surroundings, looking at different cultures and with a love story to boot!
