Story
At the school gate, when she accidentally kissed one new friend on the nose and called another a "beautiful man-horse", Rachael realized that small-town France could hardly be more different to Australia. The smell of cigarettes replaced the tang of bone-broth and sprouted sourdough, the neighbors sometimes came to blows and under no circumstances would anyone wear active wear in public. Muddling through in terrible French pushed Rachael's family to their limits. Some days, everybody cried and ate their feelings with croissants. But the town of Sommières embraced these ragtag Australians.

Publisher's Summary
Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family.
He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from 40 years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.
But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

Best narrating
This is the only book from audible I've ever really been able to focus on every word with ease and interest without zoning out at all. Saul reichlin has done a fantastic job with reading this book. Another narrator I'd listened to on audible for this book was so awful I had to revert backward every so often to try and figure out what was said.
Also a great story told in a simple not convoluted way, but also one of the most intensely interesting.

A Light Thriller
I thought that this was an extremely well written book. The introduction and networking of the characters was executed concisely.
I enjoyed the first part of the story but I did feel that I predicted the ending too quickly for the story to play out. It could had a little more suspense, but that’s me. The ending is also good and I like that it doesn’t stop there.
Overall I highly recommend it.

What's all the fuss about?
This was a long, and mostly tedious book. So many mundane, unnecessary details with very few points of excitement. And I found one of the main characters completely unlikeable.
If you must read it, I recommend trying the abridged version.
