Publisher's Summary

The No. 1 Sunday Times best-seller and WHSmith Book of the Year 2016

People are capable of almost anything.

Fast-paced and addictive, The Couple Next Door announces a major new talent in thriller writing.

You never know what's happening on the other side of the wall.

Your neighbour told you that she didn't want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn't stand her crying.

Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you live only next door. You'll have the baby monitor, and you'll take it in turns to go back every half hour.

Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realised. She's gone.

You've never had to call the police before. But now they're in your home, and who knows what they'll find there.

What would you be capable of when pushed past your limit?

Predictable and implausible

Two dimensional characters, weak plot and totally predictable pretty much from third chapter.
Impossible to like or empathise with any of the characters.
Pleasant narration the only plus

Horribly written book

I honestly can’t believe this book passed through an editing process! I almost gave up after the first few chapters. All dialogue and character actions were ended with “Marco said” or “said Anne” etc. the worst example of this was “‘Ms Fogle, I’m detective Rasback’ Rasback says” really? Of course Rasback said that! Who else would have identified themselves as Rasback? The author obviously has no idea how to write dialogue and whoever edited the book had no idea either! It was incredibly annoying and totally detracted from the story. The story was OK, but there are plenty of better books around. The performance was very forced and at times over enunciated. I would not recommend this book and I think I am going to ask for my money back on this because I wish I had not wasted my money. Couldn’t wait for it to be over!

Corny

I thought this story was too contrived. It was obvious who the baddie would turn out to be. The author tried too hard to write a thriller but I wasn't thrilled.

Terrible.

Slow moving boring and predictable ... oh with a ‘twist’ at the end which was obvious half way through.

Must remember the authors name so I never buy anything from them again - come to think of it the readers name too 🤨

Just a hideous listen all round.

Not worth your money

I finished this book for the sake of finishing but the story was so ridiculous it was a chore.

The twists

I am not normally into Crime stories and l really dislike American accents (not a good start for this one) but l really enjoyed listening to this - the narrator was really good with just the right expressions in her voice all the way through - the story kept me interested and it was hard to predict the outcome until very close to the end l was looking for something different that would hold my attention to what l normally like in books and this provided it.

Teious

Mono dimensional, preposterously selfish and evil characters. Almost no physical description of anything. No mood, atmosphere or sense of feeling. Every beat of the story is predictable and boring. The narration is histrionic and excruciating at times.

No bad

The story lacked a bit for me. The amount of times they refer to the baby as “the baby” rather than the actual babies name I found very annoying. Was interesting enough for me to listen to the end.

Bad.

Badly written, the story has holes and the ending is predictable. Feels unfinished, like the writer had to wrap it up asap.

Good read

Enjoyed this book, dragged a bit mid story but definitely didn’t expect the twist at the end!
