A towering legend among New York private equity partnerships, Everest Capital is aptly named. When its founder meets an untimely death, 36-year-old superstar Christian Gillette gets the top job. But with the power and prestige come risks. The day he narrowly escapes a fiery explosion that consumes his limo and takes two innocent lives, Gillette instantly understands how intense those risks are.
It comes as no surprise to him that he has enemies in the world of multibillion-dollar deals. But now that he controls Everest, he's not going to let those enemies keep him from taking the firm, and himself, to even greater heights. Gillette has never hesitated to be aggressive, even ruthless, in his pursuit of success. This time will be no exception.
But in order to forge the alliances necessary to achieve his goals, Gillette forsakes a cardinal rule: Never trust anyone. The only certainties are the insidious campaign of corporate sabotage that could cost Gillette his job and the relentless assassination attempts that could cost him his life. To break a deadly conspiracy of greed, he'll be forced to walk, then run, an ever-blurring line between loyalty and betrayal, attack and retreat, survival and destruction...in the ultimate game of profit and loss.
With The Chairman, Stephen Frey presides with intensified skill over the market he has so dramatically cornered, sharpening his patented brand of hard-boiled high-finance intrigue to its keenest cutting edge yet.

This book holds your attention from beginning to end. Scott Brick is outstanding as usual. I look forward to more books from this author. Very good read!
"Chairman a good listen"
Tally enjoyed this book and hope more of Frey's books hit audible. Although a bit imaginative it was a terrific listen and held our interest to the end with its many characters and twisting plot.
"A great listen"
This was one of the best books I've listened to - great character development and action. In the beginning I didn't know who to root for as every character seemed to have serious flaws. But one of the characters begins to evolve into a more positive person. There are many twists and turns in the plot that kept me guessing.
This book is terrible. It is predictable and almost cartoonish in its lack of realism. The story and the writing would be laughable if I hadn't paid for the book. How many times in one book can a person's eyes "flash" to the eyes of someone else? That line was in this book at least a dozen times. I was tempted several times to stop listening. I like escapist fiction as much as the next person, but this book really is dreadful.
"FANTASTIC. HIGHLY RECOMMEND"
Very interesting. Great characters. Really good plot. Excellent reader.
I liked the world & the corporate intrigue. It was highly involving. I couldn’t stop listening. I highly recommend it. One of my favorites, and I’ve been a member for five years.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. First one I've listened to by Frey. If you enjoy the Baldacci's, Connelly's etc. with a financial spin - you'll like this one.
Very good story, and Brick again at his best!!! The author is one of the best in his genre. I found no parts to be confusing or slow. The action kept ebbed and flow as with any good novel. But was never bored.
Very realistic suspense story in a high-finance environment. Very good reader, decent character development, good story. Very entertaining and suspenseful throughout. Story does have one inconsistency, but only the most careful listeners will figure it out. No biggie, though.
I liked this book so much that I am calling all my friends and recommending it. There were no dead spots, it kept my interest from the beginning to the end. It was like working a jigsaw puzzle. The only downside that I experienced was that Scott Brick didn't do as well as is his usual at differentiating the voices of the characterss and I got a little confused from time to time as to who was speaking.
"Good book but it lacks atmosphere"
The story is ok but you are left with a feeling that something is missing. The missing part is a description of surroundings, the city the houses the rooms nothing is described, is it dark outside, is it rainy, is it cold, is it hot. The story is ok and so is the plot but you just feel and live the story.
"A bit of Struggle at times"
I did find that this started off quite jumbled and it did lose my interest a bit at times. That said, I did persevere and it wasn't too bad, I'm not sure that I would recommend as a really good listen and wouldn't purchase another by this author although he did seem to have an excellent knowledge of his subject.
Thought the ending was a little lame.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was hard to warm to the main charachter as he is a cut throught chairman, but overtime you got to see a warmer side to him, also most of his business associates where terrible charachters, so this helped
Plot great, very good investment of time and money.
