A plane explodes mid-flight and plunges to disaster from the Scottish skies, the British and American defence secretaries among the victims.
Now Edinburgh’s Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner must lead the most high-profile investigation of his career. The means of destruction is apparent from the start, but the investigation quickly grows more puzzling.
When Skinner himself is wrenched from the case, his colleagues struggle with the mass of clues while he fights for his life, trapped with the secret horrors of his past. As Skinner’s ordeal reaches its crescendo, the police pursue their suspects in a dramatic race to hunt down those responsible. But will their much-respected DCC be able to pull himself back from the brink in time?

"Good story well told"
Yes I worked on a real life crash site less than 40 miles away and this brought back memories some of which I had no recollection. It helped me understand my occasional flashbacks.
Walking among the debris, finding the casualties and locating the sole survivor. I guessed at the culprit early on but the ending was still forceful.
Tells a good story well and switches easily between characters.
No because of previous encounters this was best listened to in episodes.
Thought I had come across all the Skinner books, but this originally came out in the 90s, although only recently as an audiobook.
From the beginning it sounds like the Lockerbie bombing, and proceeds as a murder investigation rather than an aircrash investigation. Terrible though it is, Skinner seems disproportionately upset and we have a lot of his personal history which was interesting
bit surprised at abrupt ending which is completely out of the blue really given previous relationship closeness.
American accent as always from this narrator ...appalling ..sorry bit true..
